Microscopic analysis of oral appendages, such as the shape and armature of the distal coxal endite of the maxilla, the ornamentation on the caudal surface of the antenna, and the intercoxal sclerites and armament of the inner basis of all swimming ap- pendages, were characteristics that allowed the differentiation between species. Among these species, our study confirmed the synonymy of M. diversus Kiefer, 1935 with M. ceibaensis (Marsh, 1919). The results of our observations showed that M. alius (Kiefer, 1935) is a junior synonym of M. -

Two obligate cave-dwelling species of cyclopoid copepods (Copepoda, Cyclopoida) were discovered inside caves in central Thailand. Siamcyclops cavernicolus gen. et sp. nov. was recognised as a member of a new genus. It resembles Bryocyclops jankowskajae Monchenko, 1972 from Uzbekistan (part of the former USSR). It differs from it by (1) lack of pointed triangular prominences on the intercoxal sclerite of the fourth swimming leg, (2) mandibular palp with three setae, (3) spine and setal formulae of swimming legs 3.3.3.2 and 5.5.5.5, respectively, and (4) specifi c shape of spermatophore. -

Summary All over the world, wetlands are hot spots of biodiversity and as a result they supply a plethora of goods and services to people living within them and in their adjoining areas. As a consequence, increased human pressure pose the greatest challenge to the well-being of wetlands, with Climate Change and nutrient pollution becoming increasingly important. Globally, the processes that impact on wetlands fall into five main categories that include the loss of wetland area, changes to the water regime, changes in water quality, overexploitation of wetland resources and introductions of alien species. Overall, the underlying threat to wetlands is lack of recognition of the importance of wetlands and the roles they play in national economies and indigenous peoples’ livelihoods. Wetlands form a significant component of the land area; covering around 6% of the land area. However, many of the wetlands have been degraded because of a combination of socioeconomic factors and lack of awareness compounded by lack of frameworks and guidelines for wetland conservation and management. In the Nyando Wetland, major threats include encroachment by people and animals for agriculture, settlement and grazing, overharvesting of papyrus, droughts, fire (burning), soil erosion in the uplands that cause siltation in the wetlands, invasion by alien species such as Mimosa pudica and water hyacinth Eichornia crassipes, and resource use conflicts. -

Abstract In this paper the major description, epidemiology, pathogenesis and clinical sign, diagnosis, treatment and control of parasitic crustaceans in fish has been reviewed. The major crustaceans parasites commonly encountered in cultured and wild fish are: copepods (ergasilidea and lernaeidae), branchiura (argulidae) and isopods). Members of the branchiura and isopod are relatively large and both sexes are parasitic, while copepods are the most common crustacean parasites are generally small to microscopic with both free-living and parasitic stages in their life cycle. These parasitic crustaceans are numerous and have worldwide distribution in fresh, brackish and salt water. Most of them can be seen with naked eyes as they attach to the gills, bodies and fins of the host. -

Abstract: The lips and associated structures, in different groups of fishes, are greatly modified in relation to the characteristic mode of feeding, food preference and the mode of life exhibited by the fish. The successful maintenance of fish populations in challenging environments requires responsive adjustments in their behaviour, morphology and physiology and these have been reflected by modifications at the level of their organ systems, organs and tissues. The lips are no exception to this. The importance of food in daily life of a fish is obvious and is reflected in the form of the mouth, lips, jaw and so on. These structures present more diverse modifications than any other organ of the body. The functional aspects of the lips and associated structures in family Gobiidae, Cobitidae, Belontiidae and few species of Cyprinidae show considerable variation and exhibit unique morphological modifications associated with their lips and other structures around the mouth regarding information on the level of surface architecture as seen under SEM in relation to various food and feeding habits and ecological niches.
