Rio Olympics : Hats off to the women power of India PV Sindhu Sakshi Malik Dipa Karmakar Lalita Babar Aditi Ashok The 16-day spectacle, the games of the 31st Olympiad, has concluded. India is back home with two medals. What our nation has contributed to the puissant jamboree held last month in Rio, Brazil, although has invited much criticism in terms of the performances of our participants; however, the Olympics May this country certainly has a lot more worth knowing other than the medals we got. Dipa Karmakar is one of the only five women in the world who have been able to successfully encourage the sports complete the Produnova vault. The Produnova vault requires a gymnast to run up to the vault (the culture and bring in gymnastics apparatus) and first do a handspring--that is literally toss himself/herself into the air using more and more the vault as some sort of a jumping board. Then, they are required to do two neat somersaults mid-air, success stories following which they have to land on their feet. It's easy to see why the Produnova vault is considered in 2020 Tokyo one of the world's most difficult and dangerous athletics feat. The chances of someone landing on her head or neck are high. It exposes the athletes to life-threatening injuries. The vault is extremely difficult, Olympics. although completing it successfully means very high scores. Then came female wrestler Sakshi Malik. She ended India's medal drought at Rio. She picked up the bronze in the 58kg women's wrestling category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler and the fourth Indian woman to win an Olympic medal. Shuttler PV Sindhu, lithe and lethal on court, also became the youngest Indian ever to win an Olympic medal. In a riveting 84-minute game, she fought like a tigress before going down to the world champion Spaniard Carolina Marin in the women's badminton final. In other, more modest achievements, long-distance runner Lalita Babar became the second Indian woman to qualify for the final of track and field event at Olympics, finishing 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase final on Monday; and teenage golfer Aditi Ashok qualified for the final. The World-class performances by India's female athletes have created a new generation of national icons. Their successes have won them the adulation of millions and turned a spotlight on the high barriers, both social and institutional, they had to overcome to even make it to Rio in the first place. Sadly, when these women were fighting for medals, a few of us were busy google about their castes. Let's salute these new generation icons and leave aside which caste they belong to. Ultimately, we all are Indians and let's celebrate their success in the national spirit. This month, we will be celebrating Gauri Ganapati Festival. Lord Ganesha is considered as the God of arts and sports and Goddesses Gauri represent 'Nari Shakti'. Let's pray to Lord Ganesha and Let's salute these Goddesses Gauri, may this country imbibe the sports culture across the length and breadth of India so that we can be proud of more and more success stories in 2020 Tokyo Olympics. new generation icons Sharvari A. What mattered was he was hungry, tired and destitute. Tickles, tied up at a breeder's house, Simi and Betty, tortured and starved. All happy now, warm and safe in loving homes. When Dexter was a little over a year old, we finally decided to get a kitty. Demetra came as a six month ball of grey fluff, hissing, spitting, and hiding herself at every chance.
