Description/content The International Postgraduate Studies in Mechatronics are offered as interdisciplinary courses by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in cooperation with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The synergy between these disciplines imparts the scientific basics and methods for the specific demands required for the development of integrated technical systems. Continuation of studies in a doctoral programme leading to the degree "Dr-Ing" is also possible.

Course organisation First and second semesters: postgraduate courses in Control and System Theory, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering with the corresponding laboratories Third semester: Advanced Control Theory, Applied Computer Science, and Mechatronics Fourth semester: Master's thesis in one of the active research groups of the department

Semester contribution Students pay a semester fee of approx. 275 EUR for a public transport ticket (valid for six months in the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia) as well as a social services contribution and student activities.

Costs of living The city of Siegen is one of the German cities with very moderate costs for accommodation, offering attractive living conditions. Living expenses including accommodation and health insurance range from only 600 EUR to 750 EUR per month, depending on personnel living preferences. Students can choose to apply for the dormitories or to look for off-campus housing that is privately owned.

Possibility of finding part- Students can easily find part-time jobs with the help of the thej ob placement service of the time employment university. Siegen and the surrounding area are home to a large number of medium-sized industrial enterprises (SMEs), or so-called hidden champions in electrical and mechanical engineering. Some bigger examples include the companies SMS and Achenbach Buschhütten. A lot of smaller but very successful and quickly growing high-tech companies are located here as well, for instance, PMD Technologies and Asentics, which are spin-off companies of the university. As a result, employment opportunities are very good, especially for jobs during the semester breaks and after graduation.

Accommodation There are student residences (dormitories) of the Studierendenwerk (student services) close to the university. The rent for a room is between 230 and 300 EUR. Please be aware that German universities do not usually have campus systems like universities in some other countries where all students can find accommodation directly on the university property. Therefore, some students might have to find rooms on their own. The private accommodation costs per room are 300 EUR on average. Career advisory service The Career Service of the University of Siegen offers all students a wide range of workshops and coaching on job search. In addition, the SieguVer programme offers supportive and networking measures to prepare international students and doctoral candidates in particular for entering the local job market.
