Technical Skills Assessment Addendum Course: Television Production 1 Assessment Tool: Rubric Content Area Unit Name Unit 1 - Producing a Television Show (Rundown)

Specific TSA Competencies and Skills -Demonstrate the writing processes used in journalism and broadcasting media (e.g., cultivating ideas, comparing and contrasting different writing styles, using pictures/video to support stories, editing content) -Analyze current issues related to the arts and communication elds -Apply reading skills in an arts and communication environment ​ -Apply writing skills in an arts and communication environment -Apply mathematical skills (frame rate & timing) in an arts and communication environment

Performance The students will put together and submit a show rundown based on a production between 5 and 7 ​ ​ Assessment/Task minutes. The rundown must be detailed including story slugs, story style (i.e. package, voiceover, reader, etc..), approximate story lengths as well as studio camera cues.

Specific TSA Competencies -Demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver a broadcast production and Skills - Demonstrate understanding of technical support related to broadcasting (e.g., equipment, lighting, audio mixing) -Work effectively in a team environment to improve the quality of work and the work environment -Teleprompter reading -Pre & post-production

Performance The students will, as a news team, put together a 5-7 minute PTHS themed news broadcast (Hive in Assessment/Task Five) and execute the broadcast start to finish including scriptwriting, studio execution as well as pre & post-production editing.

Specific TSA Competencies and Skills -Identify and describe proper editing techniques ​ -Demonstrate editing aesthetics - Identify and manage various le formats -Import, capture, and export media appropriately -Describe and apply motion graphics and video -Evaluate the finished product with the client/audience

Performance Students will edit together a compilation/resume video of all their completed videos throughout the Assessment/Task semester.

Specific TSA Competencies and Skills • Perform on-camera production skills • Identify parts of cameras, accessories, and camera support systems • Perform camera movements (e.g., , pan, truck, dolly) • Properly adjust cameras (e.g., exposure, white balance) • Demonstrate appropriate lens operation and framing • Apply reading skills in an arts and communication environment • Apply writing skills in an arts and communication environment

Performance Students will create a 2:00-4:00 minute film: A Day in the Life of “X”....The film will be assessed Assessment/Task based on the attached rubric.

-Demonstrate the ability to plan and deliver a broadcast production

-Demonstrate understanding of technical support related to broadcasting (e.g., equipment, lighting) .

Performance The students will be presented a script from a short film scene and in turn will have to create a Assessment/Task storyboard based on the script. The storyboard will be assessed on the supplied rubric.

Specific TSA Competencies -Identify and maintain various recording and le management systems and Skills -Determine microphone selection and application -Identify and operate various audio devices in a recording environment -Direct and produce a eld production -Produce or select appropriate music for production -Perform on-camera production skills -Identify parts of cameras, accessories, and camera support systems

Performance The students will produce a short video that must involve both wireless & wired microphones, and Assessment/Task include music mixed to the proper levels.

Specific TSA Competencies -Interviewing techniques and Skills -Gathering A-Roll & B-Roll -Identifying proper B-Roll selection -Camera Operation/Microphone Operation -Sequence-based videography

Performance Students will be assessed on the creation of a short interview on a given topic. Students then find Assessment/Task that shows what the interviewee is talking about and edit it together.

Performance Assessment/Task The students will display their FCPX skills as they capture, edit and finalize their ongoing documentary-styled news package. The teacher will assess the students using an attached rubric.

Performance Assessment/Task The students will create a full-length documentary, then edit a shortened version of the same film. This will be a major component of their student portfolio of all the content they’ve produced in their time as a television student at PTHS. The documentary will be assessed based on the supplied rubric.
