Kind Regards, Katherine Terdich Regulatory Affairs ADDENDUM 1: PEST AND DISEASE ISSUES FOR ROSES Roses like all plants can be affected by a variety of pests and diseases. Commercial production of plants free of pests and disease requires frequent observations and strategic planning. Prevention is essential for good disease control. Since the 1980’s all commercial growers use integrated pest management (IPM) systems to control pests and diseases. IPM forecasts conditions which are favourable for disease epidemics and utilises sprays only when necessary. The most widely distributed fungal disease of roses is Powdery Mildew. Powdery Mildew is caused by the fungus Podosphaera pannosa. It usually begins to develop on young stem tissues, especially at the base of the thorns. The fungus can also attack leaves and flowers leading to poor growth and flowers of poor quality. -

Gredleriana Vol. 6 / 2006 pp. 231 - 260 Die Verbreitung der Wildrosen in Südtirol (Provinz Bozen, Italien) Petra Mair Abstract The distribution of wild roses in South Tyrol (Italy) Sources for the present paper are mainly data from the general floristic mapping between 1970 - 2005 and of a targeted mapping and collection of specimens between 2001 and 2005. Twenty species of wild roses are considered native to South Tyrol following the species concept of HENKER (2000): Rosa canina, R. dumalis, R. subcanina, R. corymbifera, R. caesia, R. subcollina, R. montana, R. agrestis, R. inodora, R. elliptica, R. micrantha, R. rubiginosa, R. villosa, R. tomentosa, R. pseudoscabri- uscula, R. glauca, R. balsamica, R. pendulina, R. spinosissima, R. arvensis. A first overview of the actual geographical distribution is given and compared to historical data from literature. In addition, the general distribution and ecology of the species is briefly given. Wild roses in South Tyrol have their main distribution within the low montane belt between 900 - 1100 m. Many species, however, show a rather wide range of vertical distribution. Einleitung Die Gattung Rosa hat ihren Verbreitungsschwerpunkt in der gemäßigten Zone der Nordhemisphäre, wo sie ihren Ursprung hat und auch ihre größte Formenvielfalt und Artenzahl aufweist. Nach Süden wird die Grenze der Holarktis nur durch wenige Vor- kommen in tropischen Gebirgen überschritten. Ihr Entwicklungszentrum wird in den Gebirgsländern Mittel- und Westasiens vermutet, von wo auch die meisten Kultur- rosen stammen. In Mitteleuropa sind besonders kalkreiche Gebirge warmer Gebiete sehr reich an Wildrosen, so etwa der Schweizer Jura, oder klimatisch begünstigte Alpen- täler wie das Veltlin und das Unterengadin. -
