  • THE PROTEST ANT CHURCH in KOREA A. the First Protestant Efforts in Korea the History of the Protestant Churches in Korea Begins
CHAPTER FIVE THE PROTESTANT CHURCH IN KOREA A. The First Protestant Efforts in Korea The history of the Protestant churches in Korea begins with certain mis sionary probes which were made from the first third of the nineteenth century onwards. All of these early moves were seen as an extension of the work of various missionary bodies in China. One also gathers from reading the various sources that these early Protestant missionaries were comparatively ignorant of the development of the Roman Catholic Church in Korea. The first Protestant missionary who is known to have made efforts to begin evangelism in the peninsula was Carl FA Gutzlaff (1803 to 1851). A native of Pomerania, and a graduate of the theological school at Halle, Gutzlaff originally served with the Netherlands Missionary Society until 1828 when he resigned from their service. Eventually, he went to Macao, were he renewed his frendship with the great Chinese missionary, Robert Morrison (1782 to 1834). Between the years 1831 to 1833, Gutzlaff undertook several exploratory trips along the coast of China to evaluate the possibility of commencing mission work there. Later, during the years 1833 to 1839, he conducted further explorations and, follow ing the conclusion of the Opium War, created the China Union in 1843. This organization was to be an evangelistic society using native evangelists, and is often referred to as the 'grandfather' of the China Inland Mission. Gutzlaff's untimely death in 1851 precluded further development of this group. During the first series of missionary expeditions, Gutzlaff visited the coast of Korea in 1832 with copies of the Scriptures in Chinese which Morrison had given Gutzlaff to distribute.

  • Chronological Progression of Interior Design in Bangladesh with the Historical Faction and Scrutiny
Historical Research Letter www.iiste.org ISSN 2224-3178 (Paper) ISSN 2225-0964 (Online) Vol.28, 2016 Chronological Progression of Interior Design in Bangladesh with the Historical Faction and Scrutiny I. Ar. Farhana Choudhury Lecturer, Department of Interior Architecture Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Bangladesh Abstract The study of Interior design history of any country or society signifies the history of the settlement of the particular society, their level of culture, heritage, education and environment. All these several aspects indicate to the originality, individuality or in a word, ‘Design statement’ of a specific society or country. Design Statements serve to present intent, process, and the context of work. They vary from addressing a specific piece to looking at the overall approach to design. Design as art is the choices that the designers make in distinguishing themselves from others, and design statement is an expression of those choices. Modern human life actually evolves within one Interior to another. One may prefer open air, cool breeze or open field once or twice in a day but for resting purpose, executing household works, education or profession the ultimate destination is within the enclosure of four walls, a ceiling and a floor, an Interior space. So Interior plays a very significant role in life. There are several perspectives to look into Interior design; it may be professional or armature but the important aspect of it is impossible to escape. Keywords: Interior, Design, Chronology, Historical Progression, Movement Introduction: The study of interior design, its development and changes throughout the history, is a useful way both to explore the past and to make sense of the spaces in which modern life is lived.

  • A Theological Analysis of the Non-Church Movement in Korea with a Special Reference to the Formation of Its Spirituality
A THEOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE NON-CHURCH MOVEMENT IN KOREA WITH A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THE FORMATION OF ITS SPIRITUALITY by SUN CHAE HWANG A Thesis Submitted to The University of Birmingham For the Degree of MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion College of Arts and Law The University of Birmingham June 2012 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. ABSTRACT This study provides a new theological approach for interpreting the Non- Church Movement (NCM) in Korea. Previous studies have been written from a historical perspective. Therefore, an examination of the spirituality and characteristics of the NCM from a theological standpoint is a new approach. The present study investigates the connection between the NCM and Confucianism. It attempts to highlight the influence of Confucian spirituality on the NCM, in particular the Confucian tradition of learning. It also examines the link between the NCM and Quakerism, in particular the influence of Quaker ecclesiology on the NCM. This too has not been examined in previous studies. The thesis argues that the theological roots of NCM ecclesiology lie in the relatively flat ecclesiology of the Quaker movement in the USA.

  • Decade of Days 2017
“I WOULD DO THE SAME THINGS OVER AGAIN” Wisdom for the Spiritual Life according to Mother Mary of the Seven Dolors “GAVE EACH NOVICE A NEW NAME” 4 August 1841 The Annals of the Congregation of the Marianite Sisters of Holy Cross recount a simple ceremony that took place in the chapel of the Good Shepherd Monastery in Le Mans, France, on Wednesday, 4 August 1841. “The investiture was preceded by a three-day retreat given by Father Founder to the entire community. The morning of the ceremony he celebrated Holy Mass at which the Fathers, Brothers and Sisters assisted. The future novices, dressed in white, were conducted to the grating by Mother Prioress and her Assistant, while the religious of Holy Cross sang the Ave Maria Stella. The Good Shepherd ritual was closely followed. Reverend Father Founder blessed the veils and the silver hearts, and gave each novice a new name: Mademoiselle Léocadie Gascoin received that of Sister Mary of the Seven Dolors; Marie Robineau, that of Sister Mary of Calvary; Renée Boutellier, that of Sister Mary of the Compassion; and Leonie Chapin, that of Sister Mary of Holy Cross. The ceremony ended with the kiss of peace and the chant of the Te Deum; the new novices then returned to the novitiate.” The giving of a new name signals the beginning of a new way of life, a new direction, a new commitment. For the four young women in this scene, taking on a new name was precisely that. And yet, it was so much more. They were pioneers.

  • Islamic Radicalization in the Uk: Index of Radicalization
ISLAMIC RADICALIZATION IN THE UK: INDEX OF RADICALIZATION Anna Wojtowicz, (Research Assistant, ICT) Sumer 2012 ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of radicalization amongst British Muslims in the United Kingdom. It begins with a review of the Muslim population, demographics and community structure.
