Oct. 15 @ MONTREAL W 22-19 Oct. 23 BISHOP’S W 44-0 HOME COOKIN’ Oct. 29 @ Sherbrooke W 14-1 Saturday’s Vanier Cup will be the first road game for the Dinos in 28 days, since the final game of the regular season at Nov. 5 CONCORDIA W 39-14 UBC. The Dinos played all their playoff games to this point at McMahon Stadium, extending their outstanding home Nov. 12 @ Montreal W 20-17 record to 52-6 since the 2008 season. In their history, the Dinos have fared relatively well in neutral site games, with a Nov. 19 WILFRID LAURIER W 36-6 4-2 record in Vanier Cups played at a neutral site. The two losses came to Ottawa (1975, Varsity Stadium – Toronto) CANADA WEST STANDINGS and Queen’s (2009, PEPS Stadium – Quebec City), while the Dinos are 0-3 all time in Vanier Cups where they play the x-clinched playoff spot; y-first place home team (1993 vs. Toronto – SkyDome; 2010 and 2013 vs. Laval – TELUS-UL Stadium). QB Jimmy Underdahl missed nearly five full games before returning to lead the Dinos to victory in the second Tuesday, November 1, 2016 half of last week’s Mitchell Bowl. At various times throughout the year, the Dinos have been without their top two tailbacks (RB Quentin Chown, RB Bryce Harper), top receivers (Austen Hartley, Michael Klukas, Brendon-Thera- 1. The team’s mantra has been ‘Next Man Up’ through it all, and the 2. Montreal (7-1) 7. McMaster (7-2) team’s depth has been showcased as younger players – the likes of Jeshrun Antwi, Dallas Boath, Treshaun Abrahams- Webster, and Adam Sinagra – have had their chance to get experience and make meaningful contributions. 3. Alberta Chess Report Publication of the Alberta Chess Association Summer 2010 Special Issue! The Alberta Summer of Chess South wins Battle of Alberta The smiling faces tell the story. The team from southern Alberta dominated their northern coun- terparts in Red Deer, making it 2 years in a row. Will the south complete the hat trick in 2011? GM Charbonneau wins BATB th 5 Edmonton International GM Magesh Panchanathan overpowered the field in Edmonton this summer, winning 8 out of 9 games with only one draw, easily taking 1st. This set a new record for most points in the tourna- ment. GM Jesse Kraai has been to every Edmonton International and was all alone in 2nd. Richard Wang put in the best performance by an Albertan. The internet audience was the largest to view an Alberta event this year. Hats off to the organizers for putting on an excellent event. Calgary International Chess Classic Lawrence Day made the observation that many of the players in Calgary this year had played in at least one tournament at Lone Pine. This was certainly the strongest Calgary International and it was also the strongest tournament in Alberta this year. GM Mikhalevski was the class of the field taking clear 1st, but not without taking some blows on the way. Calgary’s Eric Hansen secured his 3rd and final IM norm this year. He secured the norm on his 18th birthday! Alberta Chess Report ● Summer 2010 Page 2 ALBERTA CHESS REPORT INSIDE THIS ISSUE The ACR is published every two months. Canadian Chess Challenge Deadline for submissions and changes is two Battle at the Border weeks prior to the month of publication.

  • Calgary-Laval Rematch Headlines 52Nd Arcelormittal Dofasco Vanier Cup
Calgary-Laval rematch headlines 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup Nov 21, 2016 By Alexander Cole, U Sports Correspondent After 13 exciting weeks of U Sports football, the 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup, which will be held on Nov. 26 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont., will come down to a match between the Université de Laval Rouge et Or and the University of Calgary Dinos. The Rouge et Or, who will be appearing in their tenth Vanier Cup match since 1999, were a force to be reckoned with all season, finishing with a record of 7-1. The team was ranked first in the nation by the U Sports top 10, and placed second in the RSEQ conference, just behind their rivals, the Université de Montréal Carabins. Throughout their playoff run, Laval has demonstrated why they are one of the best teams in the nation. In the RSEQ semifinals, the Rouge et Or made quick work of the Concordia Stingers, with a 39-14 victory. The following week, the team narrowly edged the Carabins 20-17 in the Dunsmore Cup championship, thanks to a last minute trick play which saw quarterback Hugo Richard catch the game-winning touchdown. In their most recent contest on Saturday, the Rouge et Or blew out the Laurier Golden Hawks in the Uteck bowl. The Golden Hawks, who were coming off a thrilling comeback victory against the Western Mustangs in the Yates Cup, were no match for the No.1-ranked Rouge et Or, dismantling Laurier 36-6 with Richard passing for two touchdowns and rushing for one.
