LAST TIME OUT FULLERTON - BYU soundly defeated two opponents before losing to No. 5 Arizona State in a close game at the Judi Garman Classic. The Cougars’ final two games against No. 13 Arizona and Penn State were cancelled due to rain.

Tori Almond set a career high with 10 strikeouts in a 14-1 victory over Purdue, the Cougars’ largest victory of the season. Later in the day against ASU, BYU had two chances to bring in runs and only gave up a few scattered hits to the best hitting team in the country, but ulti- mately dropped the contest, 3-0.

In their only game on Friday, BYU battled late into the night against UC Davis, coming out with a 9-0 win in six innings. Carly Duckworth had three hits and three RBI to lead BYU while junior pitcher Hannah Howell earned the win.

WILLARD NAMED WAC HITTER OF THE WEEK DENVER – BYU softball’s Delaney Willard and Hawai‘i’s Stephanie Ricketts have been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for Feb. 6-12. This is the first-ever honor for Willard and the first of the season and eighth overall for Ricketts.

Willard, a senior right fielder from Camarillo, Calif., led the Cougars to a 3-2 record at the Kajikawa Classic last week, including wins over No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 11 Oregon. She was 9-for-17 (.529) with three home runs, two doubles, nine RBI, six runs scored and a 1.235 slugging percentage. 2012 WAC STANDINGS Willard had a career-high four hits vs. Texas State and scored four runs against UC Santa Barbara, (As of 3/19/12) tying a BYU record. She also drove in all five of BYU’s runs in Thursday’s games and totaled 21 total bases on the week, an average of more than four per game.
