MARIELLA DEVIA –

Mariella Devia, born in Chiusavecchia d’Imperia, has graduated in singing at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in . She won the Toti Dal Monte competition in 1973 and she did her debut as Lucia in “”. Her interpretation of Lucia’s role – that she performed for the last time in Theatre in the season 2005/06 – is considered one of the most valuable in the history of belcanto. She has performed the main roles in the most important and renowed theatre all over the world as the in New York, the Covent Garden in London, The Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Lyric Opera in Chicago, The Staatsoper in Munich, the Opéra National and the Théâtre de Champs- Élysées in , the Real Theatre in Madrid, the Gran Teatre del in Barcelona, the Opera Theatre in Tokyo. Besides she has performed in the most important italian theatre and musical events as: Teatro alla Scala in , San Carlo in Naple, in Venice, Regio Theatre in Turin, Massimo Theatre in Palermo, Regio Theatre in , Opera Theatre in Rome, Comunale Theatre in Bologna, Le Muse in Ancona, The , the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Festival, the Ravenna Festival. She has distinguished herself in the most important roles of the lyric repertoire: Rossini, Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi’s . During her high and prestigious career she has collaborated with the most renowed opera conductors. Her repertoire has been enriched, over the years, by rare and emblematic roles. In November 2011 she has made her debut as Elisabetta I in “” at the Opéra in Marseilles. Elisabetta I was the last role she needed to compleate the Donizetti’s Queen – Serie. Mariella Devia has been the first and the only soprano in the world who have portayed all the Donizetti’s Queen in her career. Music historians agree to consider her one of the most beautiful voices of the belcanto repertoire, one of the greatest soprano vocality with an impressive interpretative force.
