  • Know Personally, Live Passionately 1St Edition Free Download
FREE THE CALL; KNOW PERSONALLY, LIVE PASSIONATELY 1ST EDITION PDF Ben Gutierrez | 9781600364815 | | | | | | First Edition Books The The Call; Know Personally could have evaporated after releasing just those two titles and would have been revered as pop maestros; both compositions are not what one would expect from exiles of the New Christy Minstrels. This album puts it into perspective with the seven Top 40 hits the group accrued between andas well as "Love Woman," "Momma's Waiting," and the Mac Davis title "I Believe in Music," which Gallery hit with and which was covered by many others, including Helen Reddy. It's not chronological, and opening up Live Passionately 1st edition "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" as Rogers does with his solo greatest hits package, Ten Years of Gold is probably more of a personal decision. The sizzling guitars on the neo-hard rock "Just Dropped In" are relegated to the middle of the disc, though a Mick Jagger would have opened the album up with his "always hit 'em hard at first" mindset. But regardless of the tracking, the First Edition truly is a band that racked up an impressive array of hits which do not get their fair share of play on classic rock stations, some major oldies stations also neglecting what is an Live Passionately 1st edition body of work. Kenny Rogers ' career and fame in country and pop music eradicated the value of this group on the live circuit, something many of its contemporaries embraced. Sad to say, a reunion of the First Edition would not get the response it deserves,as those who want to hear this material do so when Kenny Rogers comes to town.

  • The Rebirth of Slick: Clinton, Travolta, and Recuperations of Hard-Body Nationhood in the 1990S
THE REBIRTH OF SLICK: CLINTON, TRAVOLTA, AND RECUPERATIONS OF HARD-BODY NATIONHOOD IN THE 1990S Nathan Titman A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Dr. Simon Morgan-Russell, Advisor Dr. Philip Terrie ii ABSTRACT Simon Morgan-Russell, Advisor This thesis analyzes the characters and performances of John Travolta throughout the 1990s and examines how the actor's celebrity persona comments on the shifting meanings of masculinity that emerged in a post-Reagan cultural landscape. A critical analysis of President Clinton's multiple identities⎯in terms of gender, class, and race⎯demonstrates that his popularity in the 1990s resulted from his ability to continue Reagan's "hard-body" masculine national identity while seemingly responding to its more radical aspects. The paper examines how Travolta's own complex identity contributes to the emergent "sensitive patriarch" model for American masculinity that allows contradictory attitudes and identities to coexist. Starting with his iconic turn in 1977's Saturday Night Fever, a diachronic analysis of Travolta's film career shows that his ability to convey femininity, blackness, and working-class experience alongside more normative signifiers of white middle-class masculinity explains why he failed to satisfy the "hard-body" aesthetic of the 1980s, yet reemerged as a valued Hollywood commodity after neoconservative social concerns began emphasizing family values and white male responsibility in the 1990s. A study of the roles that Travolta played in the 1990s demonstrates that he, like Clinton, represented the white male body's potential to act as the benevolent patriarchal figure in a culture increasingly cognizant of its diversity, while justifying the continued cultural dominance of white middle-class males.

  • Frank Farrington's Fortunes
Yesterday’s News Published quarterly by the Lovell Historical Society Volume 28, Number 1 Winter 2021 Frank Farrington’s Fortunes By Steve Fox Frank Chandler Farrington (1836-1875) left Lovell, the town of his birth, in 1861 when he was twenty-five. His traveling companion was his wife’s father, Isaac Newton Littlehale (1801-1865), a former militia captain from Bethel. They were headed to the Comstock Lode, the second bonanza strike within ten years of gold and silver discovered in California. The first was the Gold Rush in 1849, where nuggets were found in stream beds eroding the western face of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. News went around the world, and people flocked there to see if they could get a share of the riches. Second came the Comstock Lode in 1859, where gold was found on the eastern slopes of the Virginia Mountains, clear on the other side of the Sierras. The gold was mixed with a pesky, sticky black substance. It turned out to be a pure form of silver. Once again, newspapers around the world trumpeted the find—that millions of dollars were pouring out of the ground. Frank’s parents, Jonathan S. (1806-1867) and Sarah (1808-1866) Farrington owned a general store in Lovell Village. Frank went to Gould Academy and learned law, probably apprenticing under David Hastings, who had a legal practice in Lovell at the time. Isaac and Mary (1806-1892) Littlehale, had eight children, with only four living to maturity. Isaac was a captain in the militia, and his trade was that of a carpenter and joiner.

  • Johnny Lee's Breakthrough Hit, “Lookin' for Love,” Helped Usher In
Johnny Lee’s breakthrough hit, “Lookin’ for Love,” helped usher in an historic era in country music, and four decades later Johnny Lee remains one of the genre’s most beloved entertainers. Possessing enviable comedic skills and a voice as warm and strong as sunshine on the Texas asphalt, Lee has enjoyed a successful career, but he isn’t near ready to call it quits yet. The proof is in his new album Everything’s Gonna Be Alright. The 14-song collection looks poised to be a landmark album in an already impressive career, spotlighting not only Lee’s signature vocals but also his talent as a songwriter. The Texas native wrote or co-wrote the bulk of the project. “I’m more proud of this album because I wrote most of the songs on there,” Lee says. “I’m proud of the rest of my stuff too, but I’m really proud of this one because I’m the creator.” Everything’s Gonna Be Alright is the quintessential Johnny Lee album with a diverse collection of songs ranging from the positive message of the title track and first single to the wistful romance of the tender love song “Annie” to the up tempo romp “Sawin’ on the Fiddle,” which he wrote to pitch to the late Charlie Daniels. Among the originals, the Texas Country Music Hall of Famer also puts his indelible stamp on such classics as the Leon Russell penned “A Song for You” and “Statue of a Fool,” an iconic hit made famous by the late Jack Greene.
