You can take one of our FREE tree care workshops , participate in reforestation stewardship, or simply water your local trees 15-20 gallons per week. My Tree NYC: Beautiful Tree Bed Contest

Do you beautify your street tree bed? Are you thinking of sprucing up your block by planting flowers or installing a tree guard?

Enter NYC's first My Tree NYC: Beautiful Tree Bed Contest! Starting June 18th you can upload your entries through the MillionTreesNYC facebook page .

Tree of the Month: Dawn Redwood

This month's tree is the Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) that thrives in the Liz Christy Garden on East between the and Second Avenue in the East Village, . This specimen is touted to be the tallest Dawn Redwood in Manhattan. It has bright green deciduous foliage that drops in the fall, beautiful shredded brown bark and is a fast grower, getting up to 75-100' tall. It is native to China but also flourishes on the streets of and in green spaces.

Natural Areas Volunteer Events

Learn how to care for a young forest this summer! Natural Area Volunteers and MillionTreesNYC seek dedicated volunteers to join our Reforestation Stewardship volunteer program and care for newly planted trees at these parks:

* Pelham Bay Park, Bronx * Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx * Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn * Marine Park, Brooklyn * Alley Pond Park, Queens * Clove Lakes Park, Staten Island

Over 5,000 Trees Given Away This Spring Spring 2012 tree giveaways were a major success with over 5,000 trees given away to local commnunity members. If you missed our giveaways this season, stay tuned for Fall Tree Giveaways beginning this October .
