Bolivia is the highest nation in the western hemisphere: it boasts the largest high-altitude lake in the world; is rich in resources, poor in wealth; has extreme heat, and extreme cold; is super wet, brutally dry. Contrasts are many and striking in Bolivia, and despite being one of the poorest countries in the world, it is one of the richest when it comes to impressive landscapes, centuries old cultural heritage, and colourful, indigenous people. Day 1 On your arrival at the airport in Cochabamba make your own way to our hotel in Cochabamba. After our ‘Welcome dinner” we have an informal orientation and preparation session, followed by a good night´s sleep. Overnight in Cochabamba. Hotel COCHABAMBA TO QUIME (B,L,D) 17 September. Thursday. Day 2. 315 KM Leaving the busy city we will soon be climbing the first of many passes that we traverse today at more than 4,000 meters above sea level, with the highest being over 4,700 meters. As we ride there will be the opportunity to take in the majestic beauty of the snow-capped Andes Mountains.
