SFP and Advancing Equity: Race, Privilege, and Power in Our ambitious vision — of just and equitable and contraception informed by science — requires that clinicians, researchers, and partners are equipped with practical strategies to mitigate the detrimental effects of structural racism and unconscious bias in the field of family planning. One way we can help achieve this vision is to build the capacity of members to address issues of structural racism and to mobilize for health equity.

The Society of Family Planning (SFP) is partnering with Uché Blackstock, MD, Founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity to provide an intensive, three-part training to family planning scholars and partners who are committed to driving change in their communities and practices. This training, though geared towards White allies, is open to all White and BIPOC members with an interest in driving change in their communities and institutions.

Participants in this intimate cohort will: discuss the history of oppression, learn bias mitigation strategies, identify how unconscious bias influences communication and clinical decision-making, and have the opportunity for structured self-reflection. Participants will gain the tangible skills necessary to understand the impact of power, racism, and privilege on reproductive and health outcomes.
