1 EDITORIAL Les presentamos Korad 14, correspondiente al trimestre julio-agosto-septiembre del 2013. Korad es la revista que persigue aglutinar la narrativa fantástica cubana en su sentido más amplio, incluyendo la ciencia ficción, la fantasía heroica, el terror fantástico y la poesía especulativa, entre otros. Pero Korad también divulga ensayos, crónicas, críticas y reseñas. Nuestra sección Plástika Fantástika cuenta con artista plástica e ilustradora cubana Hanna Chomenko, que accedió gentilmente a colaborar con nuestra revista. También aparecen en este número, de la mano de Sheila Padrón, la crónica de lo que aconteció en el Evento Behíque 2013, celebrado en La Habana los días 2 y 3 de agosto. En la parte teórica les ofrecemos el ensayo sobre la manga como producto cultural global del francés Jean-Marie Bouissou, traducido por Reinaldo Acosta especialmente para Korad. En la parte narrativa contamos con los premios del concurso Mabuya 2013 y el resto de las menciones de nuestro concurso Oscar Hurtado 2013. La sección de humor ofrece el cuento Kassaye, de uno de los más importantes humoristas cubanos: Eduardo del Llano. Incluimos también un relato del autor español José Luis Carrasco. Por último, encontrarán las acostumbradas reseñas de libros y concursos. Esperamos que la disfruten. Si bien uno de los principales propósitos de Korad es divulgar la obra de los autores cubanos del género, nuestra revista está abierta a recibir colaboraciones de creadores de otros países. French Journal For Media Research – n° 6/2016 – ISSN 2264-4733 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONTEMPORARY COMMUNICATION, THE CULTURE OF MANGA Christiana Constantopoulou Professeure de Sociologie de la Communication Université Panteion, Athènes - Grèce Manga and Anime The popularity of anime and manga has helped westerners gain a broader understanding of Japanese culture. Manga is a generic term for all graphic novels and comic books originally published in Japan. Manga is read either in serialized comic books, monthly magazines, or graphic novels. All formats are available in English translation, graphic novels, however, are the most common and can be found in both major bookstore chains and local comic shops. The graphic novels are usually presented in "manga-style," meaning a right-to-left format. The word Manga, when translated directly, means “whimsical drawings”. Manga are typically 'comic books' as the West understands them; rather, they represent pieces of Japanese culture and history. The 'manga' style has an extensive history, beginning sometime in the 10th century; scrolls from that period depict animals as part of the 'upper class', behaving as a typical human would in similar situations. Such scrolls would go on to be known as the Chōjū giga or “The Animal Scrolls”. Scrolls found later on in the 12th century would depict images of religion such as the Gaki Zoshi (Hungry Ghost Scrolls) and the Jigoku zoshi (Hell Scrolls). While both dealt with various aspects of religion, unlike “The Animal Scrolls”, these provided a more instructive viewpoint, rather than a comedic style. Manga are more significant, culturally, than Western comic books (though many fill the same role). -

Since the publication of H.G. Wells’s The Time Machine (1895) time travel has become a popular feature of various SF-stories. Time travel has proven not only a fantastic device for imagining “what if” – stories, but also an intriguing means to revise past events from a contemporary perspective. A very interesting and recent example is Kaiji Kawaguchi’s ongoing manga series Zipangu (translated as Zipang in English and French), which has met since its start in 2001, in the popular Kodansha manga magazine Weekly Morning, both popular and critical success1 (Masanao, 2004: 184-187). By August 2008 some 400 episodes were collected in 36 volumes2 of the Japanese edition, and 21 volumes were translated into French3 – which will be the ones analysed in this article (the number of the volume will appear in Latin numbers, and the number of the episode in arabic numbers: followed by page number after a colon). While the English translation was suspended4, the French edition seems a lot more succesful, at least from a critical point of view – see Bastide (2006, 218-219) or Finet (2008: 272-273), and a nomination at the Angoulême comics festival in 2007). Zipang is not only a fairly skillfully manga for young males (“seinen”), but it adresses also a number of current political debates of Japan’s recent history and near future. -

PARCOURS EN BIBLIOTHÈQUE Des adonaissants aux jeunes adultes REIMS 12-15 juin 2008 Session 5 L’engouement des jeunes pour les Mangas Julien Bastide Critique et auteur de livres sur les Mangas Mangas : une nouvelle littérature populaire En moins de quinze ans, la bande dessinée japonaise a conquis de nombreux lecteurs francophones, remettant en cause la suprématie historique de la bande dessinée franco-belge. Elle se caractérise par une production pléthorique, fondée sur le principe du feuilleton et ciblée en fonction de l’âge et du sexe du lecteur, suscitant des récits qui jouent sur les attentes du public, entre identification et fantasme. Les débuts du Cri qui tue Lorsqu’en 1978, Motoichi « Athos » Takemoto, jeune Japonais installé en Suisse, publie le premier numéro de la revue Le Cri qui tue, il ne se doute pas qu’il est le précurseur d’un mouvement destiné à bouleverser le marché de la bande dessinée européenne. Si l’on excepte la publication de quelques histoires de Hiroshi Hirata dans la revue d’arts martiaux Budo, à partir de 1969, c’est en effet dans ce périodique que furent présentées pour la première fois, de manière volontariste, au public francophone des bandes dessinées japonaises traduites en français – mais faute de succès, la publication du Cri qui tue est interrompue en 1981, après six numéros. Il faut attendre le début de la décennie suivante pour que la bande dessinée japonaise connaisse ses premiers best-sellers en Europe francophone, sous l’impulsion notamment de l’éditeur français Jacques Glénat, fort de l’énorme succès de la série Dragon Ball d’Akira Toriyama, publiée en français à partir de 1991 (éd.
