Marina Beach "South 's Sparkling Coast"

Besant Nagar Beach "Beach-side Fun"

Besant Nagar Beach or the Edward Elliot’s Beach, as it is originally known, is one of the biggest attractions in Chennai and a home to the memorial of the Dutch sailor, Karl Schmidt. This beach, also called as ‘Bessie’ by locals,is very popular among students and tourists alike. During the colonial times, the beach was very exclusive and only white people were by João Lavinha allowed here. Named after the Governor of Madras, Edward Elliot, this beach has heightened its police patrol and security for safety of citizens.
