My name is ____. I am from the Institute for Development Studies (IDS), University of Nairobi, an independent research organization. I do not represent the government or any political party. We are doing this research for the Comparative National Elections Project, a network of researchers who study elections in over thirty countries across the world. The Kenyan survey is being conducted by researchers from the University of Nairobi. We are studying the views of Kenyans in order to learn more about the connection between citizens, candidates, political parties and election campaigns around the world. We would like to discuss these issues with a member of your household in an interview. Every person in the country has an equal chance of being included in this study. All information will be kept confidential. Your household has been chosen by chance. We would like to choose an adult from your household. This interview will take about 60 minutes. There is no penalty for refusing to take part. And if they do choose to take part, they may stop at any time, or skip any questions they do not wish to answer without penalty.
