The information included in this directory was extracted fzom the 1982 National Drug and Alcoholism Treatment Utilization Suzvey (NDATUS). Through this survey, conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), in conjunction with the States, information was collected on services available, treatment capacity, utilization, funding and staffing. The information was collected as of September 30, 1982. The dizectory has been prepared to serve as a resource for program managezs, treatment pezsonnel, and othezs interested in the location of alcoholism and drug abuse units. Reflecting the primary focus of the NDATUS survey, most of the units in the directory aze treatment units. For purposes of this directory, the selection criteria specified that to be considered a treatment unit, the NDATUS form must have indicated either clients in treatment or a tzeatment capacity. States were given the opportunity to include other than treatment units if they desired. Thus, while the listing of treatment units is quite comprehensive, the completeness of the listing of nontreatment units vazies State. by This publication consists of three sections: 1) State authorities, 2) Drug Abuse and Alcoholism Pzogzams, and 3) VA Medical Centers. All sections aze organized alphabetically by State name. In States where there aze separate alcoholism and dzug abuse authorities, the alcoholism authority is listed first. Within each State, the entries aze alphabetized by city and then by pxogram name within city. Each entzy consists of the unit's name, address, telephone number and focus. The possible entries for focus include: treatment, prevention, or service unit for either alcoholism, drug abuse or both. A limited number of these directories aze available fzom the Clearinghouses of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the National Institute on Drug Abuse. If you represent a treatment, pzevention oz service unit that did not paxticipate in the 1982 NDATUS, and wish to be included in future surveys and di. rectories, complete the information on the last page of this directory, and mail it to the address shown.
