BROWER2 and SÖREN NYLIN1 1Department of Zoology, Stockholm University, S-106 91 Stockholm, Sweden 2Department of Zoology, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon 97331–2907, USA Received 10 January 2004; accepted for publication 12 November 2004 We infer for the first time the phylogenetic relationships of genera and tribes in the ecologically and evolutionarily well-studied subfamily Nymphalinae using DNA sequence data from three genes: 1450 bp of cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) (in the mitochondrial genome), 1077 bp of elongation factor 1-alpha (EF1-a) and 400–403 bp of wing- less (both in the nuclear genome). We explore the influence of each gene region on the support given to each node of the most parsimonious tree derived from a combined analysis of all three genes using Partitioned Bremer Support. We also explore the influence of assuming equal weights for all characters in the combined analysis by investigating the stability of clades to different transition/transversion weighting schemes. We find many strongly supported and stable clades in the Nymphalinae. We are also able to identify ‘rogue’ -

In view of the importance of sampling these areas, the present study conducted the first butterfly inventory of a coastal area in the state of Paraná. Samples were taken in the Floresta Estadual do Palmito, from February 2014 through January 2015, using insect nets and traps for fruit-feeding butterfly species. A total of 200 species were recorded, in the families Hesperiidae (77), Nymphalidae (73), Riodinidae (20), Lycaenidae (19), Pieridae (7) and Papilionidae (4). Particularly notable records included the rare and vulnerable Pseudotinea hemis (Schaus, 1927), representing the lowest elevation record for this species, and Temenis huebneri korallion Fruhstorfer, 1912, a new record for Paraná. These results reinforce the need to direct sampling efforts to poorly inventoried areas, to increase knowledge of the distribution and occurrence patterns of butterflies in Brazil. Their wing dorsa generate superficially similar blue structural colour. Cover- and ground-scale layers in the wings of the species involved were investigated using optical and electronic microscopy to detect micro- and nanostructures. The layers of the scales in the two species are qualitatively dif ferent in terms of their morphologies and pigmentation. Wing reflectivity was measured using spect roscopic and goniometric techniques and simple models were proposed to analyse the measurements taken. Optical properties of the two butterflies are not as significantly different as their morphologies. We hypothesize that the different wing-beats of the species examined have an important role and explain how the two optically similar phenomena can work differently in nature. Introduction: The fascinating Neotropical butterfly genus Morpho Fabricius , 1807 (Insecta: Lepi doptera: Nymphalidae: Morphinae) has received particular attention from entomologists, who veiy recently studied their diversity and phylogeny using new methods (Penz & Devries , 2002). Moreover the physicists working on these organisms tend to focus their investigations in the genus on detecting micro- and nanostructures in the wing scales and on the mechanism by which these structures manipu late light. -

For collection of plants and larvae from the field and for breeding larva in laboratory, identification of insects and preserving technique modern methods were used. In our investigations in spring 2005, interestingly we found Libythea celtis (Laicharting, 1782)’s larvae were feeding on foliage of Alnus glutinosa subsp. glutinosa although Celtis sp. and essentially Celtis australis are foodplant of this butterfly. DEVREK’TE ÇİTLENBİK KELEBEĞİ LIBYTHEA CELTIS (LAICHARTING, 1782) (LEPIDOPTERA, NYMPHALIDAE) ÜZERİNE BİR ARAŞTIRMA ÖZET Bu araştırma 2005 yılında Devrek’te gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bitki örneklerinin ve larvaların toplanması, larvaların laboratuarda beslenmesi, erginlerin elde edilmesi, teşhisi ve koleksiyonda muhafaza altına alınmasında modern yöntemler uygulanmıştır. 2005 yılı bahar aylarında yapılan araştırmada, literatürde Libythea celtis (Laicharting, 1782)’in konukçusu Celtis türleri ve özellikle Celtis australis olarak belirtilmesine rağmen, bu kelebeğin larvalarının Alnus glutinosa subsp. glutinosa’nın yaprakları üzerinde beslendiği tespit edilmiştir. Anahtar kelimeler: Libythea celtis, Devrek, Alnus, Celtis. 1. INTRODUCTION L. celtis is strange and rare butterfly (wingspans is about 34-44 mm). It has unusual wings and a long palpi. So, it is distinguishable by its long snout and its projection on the front wing. It is the only one its subfamily (Nymphalidae, Libytheinae) in Western Europe. The twenty species ofbutterflies (diurnal Lepidoptera) considered as threatened in the Minas Gerais (by statute) are described and di scussed in relation to di stribution, appearance and known records. KEY WORDS. Lepidoptera, butterflies threatened, Brazil o presente trabalho visa ilustrar as espécies incluídas na "Lista de espécies ameaçadas de extinção do Estado de Minas Gerais" publicada pela COPAM (Conselho Estadual de Política Ambiental) (MINAS GERAIS 1996). Detalhes com informações ecológicas serão incluídos no "Livro vermelho das espécies ameaçadas do estado de Minas Gerais" a ser editado pela Fundação Biodiversitas. As borboletas pertencem à ordem Lepidoptera que compreende aproxima damente 150.000 espécies conhecidas, das quais 19.000 são borboletas (HEPPNER 1991), sendo que no Brasil devem ocorrer ao todo 40.000 espécies, das quais 3.300 espécies de borboletas (BROWN I 996a,b). As borboletas são quase todas diurnas, com algumas poucas exceções (Hesperiidae, Lycaenidae e Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) e se diferenciam das mariposas pelas antenas clavadas e nunca terem um frênulo no ângulo umeral da asa posterior acoplado ao retináculo na face ventral da asa anterior (uma só exceção na Austrália com frênulo - Euschemon rajjl.esia Macleay, 1827, Hesperiidae). As borboletas são mais bem conhecidas que as mariposas e é possível reconhecer algumas espécies como consideradas ameaçadas de extinção, na maioria dos casos por destruição do seu habitat típico pelo avanço dos sistemas antrópicos que já substituiram mais de 90% dos sistemas naturais e 95% da Floresta Atlântica no estado de Minas Gerais. -
