Sundaramoorthy 20 Instruction to Author 859-862 Editorial Dear Readers… Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) is one of the greatest Mathematicians of the twentieth century. Well known mathematicians Professors G.H. Hardy and J.E. Littlewood compared Ramajuan’s mathematical abilities and natural genius with all-time great mathematicians like Leonhard Euler, Carl Friedrich Gauss and Karl Gustav Jacobi. The influence of Ramanujan on number theory is without parallel in mathematics. His papers, problems and letters would continue to captivate mathematicians in the future. He rediscovered a century of mathematics and made new discoveries. Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) In recognition of his contribution to mathematics, the Indian government has decided to celebrate Ramajuan’s birthday (22 December) as the National Mathematics Day every year and declared 2012 as the National Mathematical Year. The National Mathematical Year should be seen as an opportunity to make people aware of India’s mathematical heritage and to create an environment conducive for learning and pursuit of mathematical ideas so that India can reclaim its pre-eminent positions in the world of mathematics. I JONS wish all mathematical research contributors for his excellence. Naturally yours Vijikumar. S Chief Editor .

It was observed that Chevalior Sivaji film songs reflect the theoretical domain such as (i) equity and social justice and (ii) the practice of virtue in the society. In this research work attention has been made to conceptualize the ethical ideas and compare it with the ethical theories using a novel methodology wherein the ideas contained in the film song are compared with the ethical theory. Few songs with the uncompromising premise of patni (chastity of women) with the four important charateristics of women of Tamil culture i.e. acham, madam, nanam and payirpu that leads to the great concept of chastity practiced by exalting woman like Kannagi has also been dealt with. The ethical ideas that contain in the selection of songs were made out from the selected movies acted by Chevalier Shivaji giving preference to the songs that contain the above unique concept of ethics. Published 13/08/2018 LINGUSTIC POLICY OF DMK FROM 1949 – 1956 Dr. R.DHANABAL Assistant Professor in History Government Arts College for Women Salem-8. The DMK concentrating on reformative politics in Tamil Nadu during 1949-56. Language strategists are those figures who innovate prudently to promote linguistic interests. As a basic strategy the DMK preached the antiquity and achievements of the distant past of the Tamils. An ethnic group becomes a nationality when it has an image of its collective past and when its members are aware of and responsive to that image. The DMK men used to enter into villages and towns with microphone and amplifiers and create a festive climate by drapery, decoration of red and black party flags, and playing cinema records before they started their sermons. They would tell the people very seriously with all sincerity that the local people were the honourable sons and daughters of those great grand ancestors who lived in affluence and that their ancient rulers were great kings, seamen, conquerors but never intending to rule other people. In a society which believed in untouchability, they went to address the local gathering, they used to dine with the local leaders. In the party, they developed family-like relationships. The leaders were treated as elder brothers. The party men who developed the necessary oratorical talent could exaggerate the prevailing state of affairs. They would shed tears to narrate the sufferings of the people.

  • Kalki's Avatars
KALKI’S AVATARS: WRITING NATION, HISTORY, REGION, AND CULTURE IN THE TAMIL PUBLIC SPHERE DISSERTATION Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Akhila Ramnarayan. M.A. ****** The Ohio State University 2006 Approved by Dissertation Committee: Professor Chadwick Allen, Adviser Adviser Professor Debra Moddelmog, Adviser Professor James Phelan Adviser English Graduate Program ABSTRACT Challenging the English-only bias in postcolonial theory and literary criticism, this dissertation investigates the role of the twentieth-century Tamil historical romance in the formation of Indian and Tamil identity in the colonial period. I argue that Tamil Indian writer-nationalist Kalki Ra. Krsnamurti’s (1899-1954) 1944 Civakamiyin Capatam (Civakami’s Vow)—chronicling the ill-fated wartime romance of Pallava king Narasimhavarman (630-668 CE) and fictional court dancer Civakami against the backdrop of the seventh-century Pallava-Chalukya wars—exemplifies a distinct genre of interventionist literature in the Indian subcontinent. In Kalki’s hands, the vernacular novel became a means by which to infiltrate the colonial imaginary and, at the same time, to envision a Tamil India untainted by colonial presence. Charting the generic transformation of the historical romance in the Tamil instance, my study provides 1) a refutation of the inflationary and overweening claims made in postcolonial studies about South Asian nationalism, 2) a questioning of naïve binaries such as local and global, cosmopolitan and vernacular, universal and particular, traditional and modern, in examining the colonial/postcolonial transaction, and 3) a case for a less grandiose and more carefully historicized account of bourgeois nationalism than has previously been provided by postcolonial critics, accounting for its complicities with ii and resistances to discourses of nation, region, caste, and gender in the late colonial context.

  • Music, Song Lyrics, Philosophy and Human Values: Exploring Poet Kannadasan’S Contributions to the Tamil Community Worldwide
RRResearchers World -Journal of Arts, Science & Commerce ■ E-ISSN 2229-4686 ■ ISSN 2231-4172 MUSIC, SONG LYRICS, PHILOSOPHY AND HUMAN VALUES: EXPLORING POET KANNADASAN’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE TAMIL COMMUNITY WORLDWIDE Dr. Sony Jalarajan Raj, Dr. Balakrishnan Muniapan, Lecturer in Journalism /Media, Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management, School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Business and Design, MONASH University. Swinburne University of Technology, Malaysia. ABSTRACT For thousands of years music and songs have played an important role in the Tamil community. Tamil song lyrics are mostly written for cinemas, and research reveals that Tamil cinemas in the twentieth century have formed a major part of mass communication and have also served as mass-entertainment to people mainly due to the stories and song lyrics. Among the great lyric writers of Tamil songs from 1944 to 1981 was the legendary Poet Kannadasan (1927 – 1981) who was also known as Kavi Arasu or king of poets. However Poet Kannadasan’s contributions are yet to be highlighted sufficiently in media literatures. Therefore the objective of this paper is to explore Poet Kannadasan’s contribution in teaching philosophy and human values through his songs which are relevant to the Tamil community even today. This paper is considered to be the first to explore Poet Kannadasan’s philosophy and human values in an academic journal of the English language although several articles have been written in the Tamil language. In presenting this paper, hermeneutics (a qualitative research methodology) which includes content (song) analysis is used by the authors. The authors hope that this paper will provide the framework for studying Poet Kannadasan’s song lyrics in many areas apart from philosophy and human values.
