Some research revealed that the late Bob High had put together three collections of Go songs, but the last of these appeared in 1990. Very few people had these song books, and some, like me, weren’t even aware that they existed. While new songs had been printed in the American Go Journal, there was clearly a need for a new collection of Go songs. Last year I decided to do whatever I could to bring the AGA Song Book up to date. I wanted to collect as many of the old songs as I could find, as well as the new songs that had been written since Bob High’s last song book. THAT AIN’T BAD A ZINE DEDICATED TO SYDNEY INDIE POP FROM THE EARLY 90’S BY ANDY PAINE INTROduction In the late 1980's and early 1990's, a group of bands emerged from Sydney who all played fuzzy distorted guitars juxtaposed with poppy melodies and harmonies. They released some wonderful music, had a brief period of remarkable mainstream success, and then faded from the memory of Australia's 'alternative' music world. I was too young to catch any of this music the first time around – by the time I heard any of these bands the 90’s were well and truly over. It's hard to say how I first heard or heard about the bands in this zine. As a teenage music nerd I devoured the history of music like a mechanical harvester ploughing through a field of vegetables - rarely pausing to stop and think, somethings were discarded, some kept with you. I discovered music in a haphazard way, not helped by living in a country town where there were few others who shared my passion for obscure bands and scenes. The internet was an incredible resource, but it was different back then too. There was no wikipedia, no youtube, no streaming, and slow dial-up speeds. Besides the net, the main ways my teenage self had access to alternative music was triple j and Saturday nights spent staying up watching guest programmers on rage. It was probably a mixture of all these that led to me discovering what I am, for the purposes of this zine, lumping together as "early 90's Sydney indie pop".

Take It Away (promotional film) The filming of the promotional video for 'Take It Away' took place at EMI's Elstree Studios in Boreham Wood and was directed by John MacKenzie. Six hundred members of the Wings Fun Club were invited along as a live audience to the filming, which took place on Wednesday 23 June 1982. The band comprised Paul on bass, Eric Stewart on lead, George Martin on electric piano, Ringo and Steve Gadd on drums, Linda on tambourine and the horn section from the Q Tips. In between the various takes of 'Take It Away' Paul and his band played several numbers to entertain the audience, including 'Lucille', 'Bo Diddley', 'Peggy Sue', 'Send Me Some Lovin", 'Twenty Flight Rock', 'Cut Across Shorty', 'Reeling And Rocking', 'Searching' and 'Hallelujah I Love Her So'. The promotional film made its debut on Top Of The Pops on Thursday 15 July 1982. Take It Away (single) A single by Paul which was issued in Britain on Parlophone 6056 on Monday 21 June 1982 where it reached No. 14 in the charts and in America on Columbia 18-02018 on Saturday 3 July 1982 where it reached No. 10 in the charts. Twenty-First Century Troubadour: Justin Hayward on French Connections, Songwriting, and Literature Interview with Barbara Havercroft Born in 1946 in Swindon, England, Justin Hayward is the lead singer, song- writer, and guitarist with the legendary band The Moody Blues. His renowned, highly successful career in music is now in its sixth decade, and is characterized by excellence and innovation in popular music. The Moody Blues have sold more than seventy million albums and have been awarded more than a dozen platinum and gold discs. Justin Hayward has also released seven solo albums and has received numerous prestigious awards, such as the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music, awarded in May 20131. The following telephone interview was conducted at the University of Toronto on Monday, June 10, 2013. Barbara Havercroft §1 After you and John Lodge joined the Moody Blues in August, 1966, the band continued performing the rhythm and blues music played by the previous incarnation of the group. At this point, in the late sixties, you and your four band- mates decided to travel to Belgium to work. Why did you choose Belgium? Were there conditions in Belgium that were conducive to the band’s metamorphosis and the conception of new material, including the Days of Future Passed composi- tions2? Justin Hayward Actually, the band’s metamorphosis came a bit later. You must remember that nothing is planned in this band. We just stumble into things and lucky accidents and great big slices of luck happen to us. So there was no plan. We went to Belgium playing the old rhythm and blues set, which we continued playing for about three or four months after John and I joined [the group] and we simply weren’t very good at it.
