Some assume it’s the devil and that Jesus is warning us to be wary of that spiritual foe rather than just human enemies; but no, the devil does not have that authority; God alone does. We tend to imagine that hell is Satan’s eternal domain, where he presides over the damned, tormenting them for evermore; but Revelation 20 describes the devil, death and Hades being thrown into the lake of fire! The devil has an end, for he is just a created being; God alone is Creator. It is one of Satan’s perpetual tricks to convince us that he has more clout than he does—and he is a formidable foe for us, whom we underestimate to our peril—but he is a creature like us, not a rival god; and he has NO power over the LORD. And let the prince of ill look grim as e'er he will, he harms us not a whit; for why? his doom is writ; a word shall quickly slay him. Hymn #405 T. Carlyle’s translation of Luther’s Eine Feste Burg). He has no power over God, and I would argue that likewise the devil has no rights in our lives as Christians. There is no question that we open doors to him through our sins, allowing him to get a finger or foothold there—and he will claim accordingly that he has does have the right to take up residence— but let me be absolutely clear: he has NO right WHATEVER in a Christian’s life—and frankly, I don’t believe he has a right in anyone’s life, for we were all made in God’s image and for life in the Lord. Yes, but, some will say, do not we who are in Christ often give him permission by choosing to open doors through deliberate sins? Yes, we do open doors; but think about this: if I were to open the door to my house, or leave it unlocked, and an intruder were to wander in, claiming that he has a right to be there, I might legitimately say, “No! It is my house. You are not free just to walk in.” Still he might reply, “The door was open/unlocked, so I have a right to be here.” No, he does not; it is still my house, and I have full legal right to send him packing! However, more than just standing on the rights of personal property, when dealing with our lives as Christians, we ought to recall St. Paul’s words at I Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. It is not simply YOUR house, but the Lord’s; YOU belong to Him, and He alone can grant the devil the right to be there—and He will not do so! The Spirit is not just a Guest in your house; it is His TEMPLE! That is why, when you fall into sin, you need to repent and return to the Lord, clearly and deliberately closing doors, renouncing whatever you did to open them. Further, it ought to be done aloud, this renunciation and declaration of the closing, because while the devil can throw thoughts into your head, he cannot read your mind—although he will try to convince you otherwise—and he has no power over the soul. Pray aloud in Jesus’ Name for the disarming of Satan and his servants, and claim the victory in Christ. Consciously re-consecrate the Temple to GOD the Holy Spirit. Satan endeavours to rule by fear, as do the powers of this world; but their authority is only temporal, i.e. in this world alone; so we are not to fear them. Whom then are we to fear? GOD alone has the power over body and soul. …continued on page 2… Both the Psalms (e.g. 111:10) and Proverbs (e.g. 9:10) somehow even that little life is in His hand; nothing’s tell us that the Fear of the LORD is the beginning of lost, neither crumb nor fragment (cf.
