At the AGM the leadership and administration of the Association had a changing of the guard. With the previous President and Secretary not seeking re election a new committee was elected. The committee saw a couple of new faces in executive roles, with their experience and enthusiasm the administration certainly took on all tasks. Congratulations to all the players who played the game this season, and a big thanks to the various club’s executive who make it happen on a weekly basis. Congratulations to all the premiership winners especially to Schofields for getting their name on the first grade trophy for a first time. During the season we certainly had the experiences of life, Firstly the district was saddened by the on field death of the Schofields President Jim MacLure. Jim was everyone’s friend and had a wonderful passion for the game of cricket. Secondly the passing away recently of our Patron, Doctor Rex Stubbs OAM will certainly be missed by the whole district. Rex has been our Patron for many years, although always having a keen eye on the success of Pitt Town. On the field this season right through the grades there were strong competitive competitions. The grading committee certainly did a committed job and stood by their actions. Congratulations to Adrian Woodbury for leading this sub committee. The district teams put in their best and represented us proudly, with our Martin Shield winning the shield. The Telegraph and Gee Shields certainly participated well to achieve their high results. On behalf of the district a big thank you goes to David Wassall for his effort in covering all the bases with our representative teams. To the Umpires Association a big thank you from all the players and administrators in our district, with their growing band of members it is great to see the black and white army doing their job. Credits go to Carl Eilbeck and Adrian Woodbury. A lesser known group of people behind the scenes also did a great job, chaired in most cases by Barry Smith, the Judiciary acted promptly and fairly to set standards that I am sure will lead to a better standard of on field behavior in our district. We have also had wonderful support and assistance with an array of matters from our NSW representative Craig McLean. He has been available at all times and helped us with all sorts of issues. With his enthusiasm cricket will certainly grow stronger. Cricket in whole is facing many challenges, we have reacted to this with the changes to the under 10’s competition and other changes are being considered. During the year several forums were held which gave everyone satisfaction to see the entire district united its endeavours to restructure and see future growth in cricket. During the year two of our executive have done their bit for the future of cricket, Amber with a baby girl and Adrian with a baby boy, congratulations to you and your families. I would like to thank all those people who attended our various committee meetings, we certainly have covered some topics with healthy debate and in most cases unity as we left the meeting rooms. Special thanks to the executive, Bill, John, Amber, David and Adrian. As a new Secretary Bill has certainly hit every ball for six, thankfully he has semi retired and certainly has put a huge amount of time into our district. Also the life members and crews behind the scenes who have helped out in various odd times and places whether with hat presentations or judiciary meetings etc etc. Let’s all get together and progress the wonderful game of cricket with a positive approach into a very bright future. Ross Matheson 4 112th Annual Report It is a pleasure that I present the 112th Annual Report of the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association. This season we had 43 senior and 39 junior teams participate in our competition. Our numbers continue to be steady after a number of years of decline. However the low number of junior sides in some age groups continues to be a concern. Welcome to the Tigers CC whose application to be affiliated with the HDCA was approved at the April Council meeting. Under 10 Competition This year saw a significant change in the conduct of the under 10 program as a result of an ongoing consultation with interested stakeholders. Key changes included reducing the number of players to 8, batting in pairs and a variety of one and two day games. Consultation during the season resulted in some change and I would like to thank all the coaches who provided valuable input into the decisions taken. We had 11 teams participate but the real challenge is to progress those numbers into the under 11s. Representative Teams This year saw a change in the presentation of representative caps. Caps were issued to players by HDCA Life members at the ground. A decision was also taken that caps are to be carried over from year to year with only new players being given a new cap. A special thank you to David Wassall, Vice President Juniors, who did a terrific job in organising the junior representative season after virtually starting from scratch after being elected at the last AGM, a job really well done. Congratulations to the Martin Shield side on being joint premiers, after the final was washed out, as well as the Telegraph and Gee Shield sides that both made the semi finals. First Grade Congratulations to Schofields on wining the first grade premiership after being runners up in the previous 2 seasons. Special mention to North Richmond who finished minor premiers after being moved into first grade at the last minute. It shows what commitment and a bit of self belief can do.
