This section provides additional information about our community. COMMUNITY EVENTS AND ATTRACTIONS ANNUAL EVENTS AND FESTIVALS . Sorticulture Garden Art Festival: This annual event, held at Legion Memorial Park, has delighted avid gardeners and art lovers since 1998. Over 100 artists and nurseries gather to unite art and the garden in a celebration of outdoor living. The event features distinctive hand‐crafted art for the garden, specialty nurseries, display gardens and designers, a food fair and wine garden, free kids’ activities, and live music. There are lectures, demonstrations, and gardening forums with Northwest renowned master gardeners for the novice to the serious gardener. Transportation to the festival from Everett Station or Everett Community College, where free parking is available. Sorticulture 2020 is scheduled for June 12 – 14. Admission is free. Fourth of July: Everett's Colors of Freedom Fourth begins with the downtown parade in the morning. The festival continues at Legion Park Bluff, overlooking Port Gardner Bay with free kids' activities, a food fair and beer garden, and live music. Fireworks take the celebration into the evening. For early risers, YMCA’s Yankee Doodle Dash one‐mile family fun run, 5k and 10k races set off at 8:30 am sharp. Thursday Music at the Marina: This free evening concert series at Port Gardner Landing is the best summer dance party with a most spectacular waterfront backdrop. Have dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants or local food trucks, grab a beer or glass of wine at the Marina beer garden, and enjoy the music. Wintertide: Kick off the holidays at Wintertide, Everett's free community holiday celebration. The evening includes a visit from Santa, live holiday music performed by local youth chorales, performances by the Everett KIDSTAGE theater group, face painting, arts & crafts, and storytime. Locally‐made gifts are available for purchase at the Everett Makers Market and free cider, cocoa, and cookies are provided alongside a warm bonfire. EVENT VENUES . Angel of the Winds Arena at Everett: Located at 2000 Hewitt Avenue, the arena hosts myriad of events including concerts, rodeos, circuses, and family shows such as Disney on Ice, Cirque de Soleil, and Sesame Street Live, and graduations. The arena is also the home of the Everett Silvertips hockey team. In addition, the venue accommodates other sporting events such as volleyball, wrestling, basketball, and gymnastics. The multi‐purpose complex consists of a 10,000‐seat venue, a community ice rink, and a conference center. Edward D. Hansen Conference Center: The Edward D. Hansen Conference Center includes an 11,000 square foot Grand Ballroom, which can accommodate 800 guests for sit‐down meals and is divisible into four rooms for smaller events. There is an additional 3,000 square feet outside the ballroom for tradeshow booths, exhibition space, or receptions. The Everett Performing Arts Center (EPAC) is owned and supported by the City of Everett. Village Theatre manages EPAC for the City and presents five Broadway‐style productions as part of its annual Mainstage Season. EPAC is a state‐of‐the‐art performance venue for the performing arts in Snohomish County, offering a 512‐seat auditorium with a proscenium stage, including full theatrical lighting and sound systems, an orchestra pit, rigging/fly system, wing space, shop and costume facilities. Along with the auditorium, EPAC has a multipurpose community room that is available for rent and a spacious lobby area. The Artspace Everett Lofts, at 2917 Hoyt Avenue, is a multi‐use regional arts center. Its mission: create, foster, and preserve affordable space for artists and their families. Artspace provides 40 units of live/work studios for artists and is the home to the Schack Art Center. The Schack Arts Center hosts a complete hot shop, cold‐working shop, warm glass studio, professional and student exhibit spaces, gallery store and multi‐purpose classrooms. It provides opportunities to engage the community in the creative process with programs that include glass blowing and kiln forming. The Schack Arts Center hosts several major arts exhibits each year. Additional information can be found at www.artspaceeverettlofts.com. PARKS, RECREATION, AND OTHER LOCAL ATTRACTIONS . Everett Parks: With 45 parks on the map, the Everett Parks and Recreation Department offers urban green spaces and recreational facilities, from boat launches, playgrounds and picnic shelters, to sports fields and trails; an arboretum at American Legion Memorial Park and a volleyball court on Jetty Island. Classes and trips provide activities for the entire family, including opportunities to experience the Northwest outdoors in snowshoes or hiking boots. And, people and their furry best friends are always welcome at one of the three off‐leash dog parks. A full listing of parks and programs are available on the City of Everett’s web site. Golf: The City of Everett's two public golf courses, Legion Memorial and Walter E. Hall, are maintained by the City and managed by Premier Golf. Golfers enjoy spectacular views at the Legion Memorial course and wide‐open, relatively flat fairways at Walter E. Hall. The full‐service pro shops, PGA teaching staff, and restaurants create a great venue for organized events and family gatherings. Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens has been showcasing northwest plants since 1963. The Arboretum is both a place of beauty and education and is free to the public. A Northwest Native Plant Trail, an Urban Tree Walk, and a Japanese Maple Grove are just three of the featured themed gardens in this 3.5‐acre arboretum located within American Legion Memorial Park. Tours, classes, and volunteer opportunities make this urban oasis a year‐round destination. Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary is a 50‐acre passive recreation and environmental education park. It offers two walking trails, a small loop trail and a 1.5‐mile interpretative trail around the perimeter with educational signs for a self‐guided tour. Langus Riverfront Park, adjacent to the Snohomish River on Smith Island, boasts premier river access with a boat launch, fishing pier, shell house, and a rowing dock that is home to the Everett Rowing Association. The three‐mile paved trail is perfect for walking, jogging or biking. It also provides a great vantage point to see waterfowl, raptors and shorebirds. Jetty Island is 2‐mile‐long by half‐mile‐wide artificial island accessible only by boat. Its rare sandy beaches and shallow warm waters draw more than 50,000 people each year. In the summer, the Jetty Island Ferry departs from the 10th Street Boat Launch, located at 10th and West Marine View Drive. The Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett has served the greater Everett area senior community since 1965, hosting nearly 70,000 senior citizens a year. Programs are offered to citizens age 50 and over. Classes and activities include dances, day trips, a hot lunch meal program, exercise classes, computer and smart phone basic skill classes, bingo, and many more. The Center also offers wellness and social support, and strives to foster a healthy, engaged, and informed community. For class schedule, events, and available resources, please call 425‐257‐8780. Imagine Children's Museum, Everett promotes the power of play: learning and growing by doing what every child loves to do best…play! OTHER INFORMATION . Everett Channel, a government access cable channel for the City of Everett, is now available online, as well as on Comcast’s channel 21 and Frontier Communication’s channel 29. The Everett Channel features coverage of City events, development activities, as well as City Council meetings, City Planning Commission meetings, public forums, and City‐produced programs. Everett Station serves as a major transportation hub for Snohomish County and is home to Everett Transit
