The needles of Judy Livingston, Rosie Scott, Margaret Lundon, Glenys Niven and Barbara Benson have been click-clacking furiously, knitting baby and children’s items to raise money for charity. “I’ve been doing a charity knit sale for seven years although the 2020 sale was cancelled because of Covid,” Judy said. “All items for sale have been donated and all proceeds will be shared by five named charities. “While most of the items for sale are baby and children’s knits, there is a small range of adult jerseys and beanies. “Items are priced very reasonably as all involved understand the financial stress Covid-19 has put on families and hope the low prices will enable everyone to purchase new hand-knits for their families this winter.” The charity knit sale takes place at the former House of Gifts shop on Gladstone Road on Friday, April 30, from 9am to 3pm and Saturday, May 1, from 10am to 1pm. A NEWLY-APPOINTED deputy chair of the soon-to be-scrapped district health board says the time frame of the job is “immaterial”. Minister of Health Andrew Little has appointed Josh Wharehinga as deputy chair of the Hauora Tairawhiti board, despite plans to abolish boards by July 2022. Mr Wharehinga, who is also Gisborne’s deputy mayor, will carry out the role until the health reforms, announced last week, see all 20 district health boards replaced with a single organisation called Health New Zealand.
