Kein Kommentar, kein Leitartikel, der sich nicht im Elend suhlt. Man möchte manchmal denken, die Welt ist unter gegangen, nur man selbst hat das irgendwie verpasst. abei ist es in der Veranstaltungstechnik-Welt bisher erstaunlich ruhig. Natürlich werden hier und da Budgets gekürzt oder Events gecancelt. Das hat es aber auch schon vorher ge- D geben, und scheinbar wird die „Krise“ manchmal auch gern hergenommen, um ohnehin beabsichtigte Streichungen zu legitimieren. Insgesamt jedoch hält sich das Wehklagen in über- schaubaren Grenzen, wenn man bedenkt, was uns von den Medien vorgejammert wird. Unsere Branche war immer innovativ und flexibel, und wie schon in den nicht ganz einfachen Jahren nach Crisis – dem Millenniums-Boom, so wird auch diese Herausfor- derung überstanden werden. What Crisis? Lassen Sie uns deshalb ruhig mal auf die kleinen posi- tiven Dinge in unserem Mikrokosmos schauen: Mit die- ser Ausgabe wird das VPLT Magazin erstmals auch auf den Tischen aller Mitglieder der Fachverbände FAMAB (Verband direkte Wirtschaftskommunika- tion e.V.), EVVC (Europäischer Verband der Veranstaltungs-Centren e.V). und IDKV (Bundesver- band Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V.) liegen. Der VPLT hat sich bekanntlich immer bemüht, ein wenig über den Tellerrand hinaus zu blicken, und diese mit den Partnerverbänden abgestimmte Maßnahme ist ein weiterer Schritt in diese Richtung. Viele unserer Beiträge sind auch für diese Leserschaft wichtig, und zudem werden wir uns be- mühen, neue Themen zu integrieren. Herzlich willkommen also an alle neuen Leser aus diesem Kreis! Oktober 1966 in München gebo- ren. Er ist seit 1989 in der Lichttechnik-Branche, seit 1992 als Lichtdesigner tätig. 2001 bis 2003 war er Geschäftführer der Procon Rental & Projects GmbH. Seitdem ist Appelt freiberuflich tätig als Lichtdesigner/Projektleiter für Events, TV Shows und Konzertveranstaltungen. Neben vielen anderen Auszeichnungen erhielt er 2004 den Opus „Deutscher Bühnenpreis“ in der Kategorie Lichtdesign und 2006 den „reddot design award“ im Bereich com- munication design für die Lichtsinfonie Berliner Hauptbahnhof. Der Lichtdesigner ist mit seiner Arbeit gleichermaßen in der Welt der Mu- sik, des Fernsehens, der Industrie, der Kunst und der Architektur zuhause. Die Bandbreite seiner Arbeiten erstreckt sich von der Inszenierung der „Bambi“ und „Echo“ Verleihungen über die Lichtsinfonie zur Eröffnung des Haupt- bahnhofs Berlin, die Inszenierung von „Scarlet Sails“ in St. Petersburg vor über einer Million Zuschauer, oder der Schiffs- taufe des Kreuzfahrtschiffs „AIDA Aura“ bis hin zur Operninszenierung von „Carmen“ in Sevilla, oder der Licht & Me- diendesigns des „Upper East“ in Hamburg, einer Event Location, die durch die Verwendung von Video- und LED Technik Maßstäbe setzt. Sein Focus liegt auf der kreativen Arbeit, wobei für sein Verständnis eines zeitgemäßen Show-, Event-, und Raumdesigns die Gewerke Licht und Video heute gleichermaßen in den kreativen Gestaltungsprozess einzubeziehen sind. Denn vor nicht allzu langer Zeit wurden Designs für Licht und Video noch getrennt voneinander entwickelt. Nun ha- ben die technischen Möglichkeiten diese beiden Gewerke miteinander verschmolzen. In den Augen Jerry Appelts ein glücklicher Umstand, der seinem kreativen Naturell entgegen kommt. Um den unterschiedlichen Anforderungen von Inszenierungen gerecht zu werden, misst Jerry Appelt der engen Zu- sammenarbeit mit dem jeweiligen Setdesigner, dem Regisseur und dem Team besondere Bedeutung bei, denn nicht selten müssen große Shows und Inszenierungen, insbesondere für das Fernsehen, unter sehr hohem Zeitdruck realisiert werden. Bereits zu Beginn seiner Laufbahn als Lichtdesigner Ende der 80er Jahre arbeitete Jerry Appelt in großen Produktio- nen. Und von Anbeginn spielten Moving Lights eine große Rolle. Somit bezeichnet er es selbst als glückliche Fügung, dass er mit dieser Lichttechnologie quasi seit der ersten Stunde arbeiten kann. Das schuf über die Jahre Erfahrungswerte, auf die seine Kunden heute gerne zugreifen. Seit 1986 hat er unzählige Produktionen für Fernsehen, Tourneen, Messeauf- tritte, Industrieevents und Theater maßgeblich geprägt.     FEMINISM FOR SALE: COMMODITY FEMINISM, FEMININITY, AND SUBJECTIVITY Julie Elizabeth Dowsett A Dissertation Submitted to The Faculty of Graduate Studies In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Graduate Program in Political Science York University Toronto, Ontario June 2014 © Julie Elizabeth Dowsett, 2014 ABSTRACT Today it is commonplace for the female consumer to be targeted using appropriated feminist discourses. This dissertation theorizes commodity feminism, a play on Marx’s conception of commodity fetishism, at the intersections of Marx/Marxism, feminist theory, and Freud/Freudianism. My method involves exploring a series of relationships through reading canonical and contemporary works of political theory and feminist theory. These relationships build upon one another in each chapter: the first relationship is between women and commodities, and to this relationship I add femininity, social control, and subject formation in sequence. In thinking through these relationships, I critique a variety of trade and scholarly marketing publications and marketing campaigns. I argue that the theory of commodity feminism provides a crucial, and as of yet unearthed, understanding of the contemporary relationship between women and commodities. I define commodity feminism as the commodification of feminist critique and praxis. In its cultural sense, commodity feminism is the broad phenomenon in which women are encouraged to express their empowerment by purchasing commodities. The politics of commodity feminism are both liberal and conservative. Commodity feminism is liberal in that it offers a type of resolution (however commodified) to the feminism/femininity tension and endorses liberal feminist politics of independence and self-determination. However, I argue that the view of society underpinning commodity feminism is conservative in that the masses are understood to be a problem in need of control.

    Online Media and the Emergence of Young Vietnamese Citizens as Environmental Activists A Case Study of the ‘Save Son Doong’ Movement By Ly Thi-Cam Nguyen A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of International Communication Unitec Institution of Technology, New Zealand, 2017 ABSTRACT Various youth initiated grassroots environmental campaigns have emerged within Vietnam’s complicated political and media context over the past few years. This raises questions regarding how Vietnamese youth have taken advantage of the Internet to protect the environment. Guided by the research question “How do young Vietnamese citizens use online media for environmental activism?” and using the ‘Save Son Doong’ movement as the case study, this research evaluates the effort of the ‘Save Son Doong’ activists in using online media to run the movement. This research also generally explores the opportunities and challenges for grassroots groups to run environmental movements in the Vietnamese context. In-depth individual interviews and a focus group with the ‘Save Son Doong’ activists were employed as the main data collection methods. Content mapping and content analysis were also applied in order to produce a comprehensive assessment of the movement activities. Research findings indicate that young, highly educated and tech savvy activists have been very diligent in taking advantage of the Internet to circumvent the state-controlled mainstream media system and lack of resources to run the ‘Save Son Doong’ movement. By employing online media to organize advocacy activities (petitioning, media advocacy and obtaining endorsement from well-known people), social mobilization activities (building coalition and mobilizing resources) and public will campaigns, they succeeded in raising public awareness, provoking public discourse about the issue, stimulating the mainstream media into massively covering the story and pressuring the decision makers into responding to the matter.
