Present Day Idols: The worship of Feminism and the Feminist Movement Author: Pierre Dungee www.getyouranswersonline.com In this short book, we are going to look at Feminism and how many women have made Feminist Movement their idol. Just so we have a working knowledge of idolatry, let’s look at what and idol is defined as: noun 1. a material object, esp a carved image, that is worshipped as a god 2. Christianity Judaism any being (other than the one God) to which divine honour is paid 3. a person who is revered, admired, or highly loved We also have the origin of this word, so let’s take a look at it here: o mid-13c., "image of a deity as an object of (pagan) worship," o from Old French idole "idol, graven image, pagan god," o from Late Latin idolum "image (mental or physical), form," used in Church Latin for "false god," o from Greek eidolon "appearance, reflection in water or a mirror," later "mental image, apparition, phantom,"also "material image, statue," from eidos "form" (see - oid). o Figurative sense of "something idolized" is first recorded 1560s (in Middle English the figurative sense was "someone who is false or untrustworthy"). Meaning “a person so adored" is from 1590s. From the origins of the word, you see the words ‘pagan’, ‘false god’, ‘statue’, so we can correctly infer that and idol is NOT a good thing that a Christian should be looking at or dealing with. The Lord has given strict instructions about idols as you can see in scripture here: Leviticus 26:1 - Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 5:9 - Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, The devil knows this, so he sets up idols so the worship will go to HIM, as this is what he wanted from the time when iniquity was found in him. Worship means that much to the devil, and he will do anything he can to get those creations of the Lord to give HIM their worship. 2 So what is worship? Worship is a public show of deep respect and devotion towards someone or something that you are in awe of/have full admiration for that you show profound, intense love and honour to in recognition of the qualities of holiness, excellence and wisdom. With that being said, let’s take a look at what feminism is. Per Wikipedia: Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social equality of sexes. This includes seeking to establish educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to those for men. Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women's rights, including the right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave. Feminists have also worked to ensure access to legal abortions and social integration, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence. Changes in dress and acceptable physical activity have often been part of feminist movements. Some scholars consider feminist campaigns to be a main force behind major historical societal changes for women's rights, particularly in the West, where they are near-universally credited with achieving women's suffrage, gender neutrality in English, reproductive rights for women (including access to contraceptives and abortion), and the right to enter into contracts and own property. Although feminist advocacy is, and has been, mainly focused on women's rights, some feminists, including bell hooks, argue for the inclusion of men's liberation within its aims because they believe that men are also harmed by traditional gender roles. Feminist theory, which emerged from feminist movements, aims to understand the nature of gender inequality by examining women's social roles and lived experience; it has developed theories in a variety of disciplines in order to respond to issues concerning gender. Numerous feminist movements and ideologies have developed over the years and represent different viewpoints and aims. Some forms of feminism have been criticized for taking into account only white, middle class, and college-educated perspectives. This criticism led to the creation of ethnically specific or multicultural forms of feminism, including black feminism and intersectional feminism. 3 Armed with this understanding, let’s look at who the feminists are and what they stand for. Again, from Wikipedia: The Feminists, also known as Feminists—A Political Organization to Annihilate Sex Roles, was a second-wave radical feminist group active in New York City from 1968 to 1973. The group was founded in 1968 as a split from the New York City chapter of National Organization for Women (NOW) by members who felt NOW was not radical enough. It was originally called the October 17th Movement after the date that it was founded, but soon changed its name to The Feminists. Ti-Grace Atkinson was the group's central figure and informal leader until she left the group in 1971; other prominent members included Anne Koedt (who left in 1969 to co-found New York Radical Feminists), Sheila Michaels, Barbara Mehrhof, Pamela Kearon, and Sheila Cronan. The Feminists' best-known action may have been in September 1969, when members picketed the New York City Marriage License Bureau, distributing pamphlets protesting the marriage contract: "All the discriminatory practices against women are patterned and rationalized by this slavery-like practice. We can't destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage." 4 Here are some of the views that these feminist had, so let’s take a little closer look: According to Germaine Greer in The Female Eunuch (1970), The Feminists promoted not having leaders in society, "characterized men as the enemy," described "Love" as "the response of the victim to the rapist", and believed that "the proprietary relationship of marriage" and uterine pregnancy would "no longer prevail." The Feminists held that women were oppressed by their internalization of patriarchal sex roles, and hence suffered from a kind of false consciousness. To liberate themselves from such oppressive roles, The Feminists held that the feminist movement must be entirely autonomous from men and eventually came to hold that women should be free of men in their personal lives as well. The group was strongly opposed to the sexual revolution, holding that it was simply a way for men to get easier access to women's bodies. Ti-Grace Atkinson was one of the first radical feminists to be specifically critical of pornography. They at first advocated that women practice celibacy, and later came to advocate political lesbianism. The separatist ideas of The Feminists were reflected in their membership quota, restricting women who lived with men to one-third of its members, and excluding married women entirely in 1971. After Atkinson's departure, The Feminists moved in the direction of advocating matriarchy and developing a "woman's religion", ideas that later came to be known as cultural feminism. Although The Feminists disbanded in 1973, they played an important role in the development of cultural feminism, separatist feminism, and anti-pornography feminism (Barbara Mehrhof later became an organizer for Women Against Pornography), tendencies that were predominant in radical feminism by the late 1970s. 5 The purpose of this book is not to get into the debate with people who are feminists; I actually don’t care one way or another if a person is a feminist or not. What I do look at is how this jibes with that the Lord of Hosts, Jesus’ Father, had set up as His Order and how He wants us to live down here on earth. There have been a lot of inequalities that have been perpetrated by the men, as this has been slowly dealt with over the years. I remember when a woman bus driver was a big deal; now, it is commonplace to see women drive buses all over the country, if not the world. All we really care about is getting to our destination safely and on time. We could care less if it was a man, a woman, or a midget with a limp. Can they do the job? If they can, let them get on with it because we have things to do. Today, we see women operating trains, flying airplanes, and doing work that was typically ‘male only’. These women are as professional as any male as they do their jobs. As one who has had flight training in the past, my instructor was a woman and she flew the tightest IFR approaches that I had ever seen, and she could hold a course and heading better than my male instructors. So what does all of this mean? It means that the person rose to the expectations of the job and they had either met those expectations or had exceeded those expectations. This has NOTHING to do with gender superiority or gender inequality because the job could be done successfully by EITHER gender. Now, even with these jobs, notice that most women CAN maintain a work/home balance; she does NOT deviate from the roles that the Lord has provided for both men and women to fulfill, and this is because these roles are important for the family, which is the most important structure that we have on earth today.
