GOLF LEGEND COMMITS TO DICK'S SPORTING GOODS OPEN 51-Time Champion Returns to Endicott

VESTAL N.Y. – The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open is proud to announce that World Hall of Fame Member Tom Watson has formally committed to play in the 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En- Joie in Endicott, New York.

"The addition of a true golf icon to our already stellar field further justifies the way the players perceive the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open as a premiere Champions Tour event", said Tournament Director John Karedes. Karedes added, "Even though this is Tom's first visit to En-Joie as a Champions Tour player, we have been in contact over recent years. His schedule did not match up with our location on the Champions Tour Schedule. However, he always sent me a hand written note explaining there was a conflict and wishing us a successful event."

Watson's lone previous appearance at En-Joie came in 1976 when he finished tied for 21st Place and earned $1,850.

The 61 year old Watson has 39 victories on the PGA TOUR including 8 Major Titles. (5 British Opens, 2 Masters and 1 U.S. Open). Upon moving to the Champions Tour he accumulated an additional 12 victories, including 3 Senior British Open titles. Watson nearly pulled off one of the all-time great stories in sports by almost winning the 2009 British Open.

Tom also played on four U.S. Ryder Cup teams and captained the 1993 team to victory. He also led the PGA TOUR in earnings five times.

Watson, has been has been a driving support for raising awareness for our troops, as he has visited U.S. troops in Kuwait and Iraq in the past year. He has also given considerable time to raising awareness and money for ALS Research...the disease took the life of his former caddy (Bruce Edwards). He holds a Bruce Edwards Celebrity Classic in Maryland each year since 2004 to raise money for research.

Tom has recently published a book "The Timeless Swing" as well as a pair of CDs titled "Lessons of a Lifetime".

The 2011 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open will be played at the En-Joie Golf Course June 20th-26th. Activities throughout the week include a 2-Day Pro-Am, Women’s Golf Clinic conducted by Member Donna Caponi, and the Friday Concert featuring Grammy Award Winning group Maroon 5.
