FURTHER EDUCATION Degree in Theatre Design at the Central School of Art and Design. TESTIMONIAL Linda was our Costume Designer on the feature film "DELIRIUM", a contemporary drama set in a traditional British university college. She did a brilliant job creating a vibrant and exciting costume collection for each of the characters, which perfectly complemented the mood and setting of each scene. She has an excellent sense of character and a ruthless instinct for where to get just the right piece to bring the whole concept into focus! Linda is extremely experienced - we first worked together at the BBC a number of years ago - and she brings a wealth of design knowledge to the job along with her wonderful intuitive people-management skills which make everyone feel not only at their ease, but special. She is great with cast, and an excellent organizer of her team. Needless to say, this is invaluable in the middle of a hectic shoot with early starts and late finishes. Linda's commitment to the job is unwavering. She's a wonderful supportive colleague whom I would heartily recommend. Fiona Howe - Producer, Scenario Films .

We also have a special event planned on Saturday 9th at the beautiful Savoy Cinema, just around the corner at Heaton Moor. The Savoy is very much like ‘The Bijou’ from The Smallest Show on Earth, (without all the problems!), so we decided to hold a proper Saturday Morning Pictures Show on Saturday 9th October 2021 from 9am-12pm – bring your pop guns and wear your badges! There will be a special guest and a separate Film Quiz with Afternoon Tea in the afternoon from 1-4pm. It will be a smaller event than The Plaza on the Sunday so get your tickets quick! There’s not many seats available at The Savoy. If you have specific seating requests for ANY EVENT, then call us to book your tickets rather than online or on the order form. When booked we will send you a fact sheet on parking and hotels etc. Exciting times – we’ve got some great guests lined up for this year! For those of you who have tickets already from last year – we will post out your new packs as soon as we can. More details on pages 26-28. At last we can all have a get together to look forward to! This month there’s something very special for Gracie Fields fans, a limited edition necklace with her autograph, and TWO DVDs for just £20.

MB: OK, thank you. So when and how long did your father play in the Royal Theatre for? RW: From 1933 to 1952. AN: And you played the piano? RW: Percussion. MB: And then you played also in the role? RW: In February 1947 he was taken ill and the musical director of the show that was there that week asked me if I played the drums. I said ‘Yes’, and he says – well, he didn’t ask me, he told me! - he says ‘I want you here tomorrow afternoon to play’. I was 15 years old. AN: Were you very happy to do that? RW: Oh yes, I’d been studying under my father since I was about seven years old and I’d always gone to the theatre - it was like a playground, I grew up in it. I knew the routine, I knew all the musicians in the orchestra so it was, you know. And I must have coped very well on the afternoon because they said ‘Back tonight, but you’ll want a http://sounds.bl.uk Page 1 of 10 Theatre Archive Project dinner suit on’, because I’d just gone in an ordinary suit in the afternoon matinee - I had to have a dinner suit for the evening.

A crowd singing} You fill up my senses, Like a gallon of Magnet, Like a packet of Woodbines, Like a good pinch of snuff, Like a night out in Sheffield, Like a greasy chip butty, Like Sheffield United, Come thrill me again {intro music – jaunty, bouncy} {Intro standard announcement: Hello. Thank you for tuning in. You're listening to Travel Tales From Beyond The Brochure, a fortnightly series looking at unfamiliar places across the world, and aspects of travelling you may never have thought of. I'm your host, The Barefoot Backpacker, a middle-aged Brit with a passion for offbeat travel, history, culture, and the 'why's behind travel itself. So join me as we venture … beyond the brochure.} {Music fades. Podcast begins} Hello :) Carrying on from last episode's New Year greetings, if you celebrate or otherwise mark it, I hope you had a happy Easter, a kosher and joyous Passover, and/or a Blessed Ostara. It's that time of year when there are many and varied religious and cultural celebrations one after another. It was Holi recently too, an ancient and popular Hindu festival that celebrates both the arrival of spring, and the defeat of evil (Hiranyakashipu) by good (Vishnu). Most outsiders, especially in the West, only know it as 'that festival where everybody throws coloured powder around'. Still, at least they've heard of it, which is a step up I guess. Related, I'm writing this on International Asexuality Day, which … seems to be trending regionally on Twitter, which either shows there's a lot of us, or it doesn't take a lot to trend on Twitter.
