July 2017 Newsletter No 181 Trout Lake Lunch To the French a reservation at ´midi' means an arrival between midday and 13.30. To the English 'midi' means 'midi' and therefore it was no surprise that members arrived at the Trout Lake from about 11.30 and that everybody was seated by midday. We have held a lunc h at t his venue now for 5 years and so most of us wer e familiar with the rustic nature of the venue. We were treated to a sumptuous meal comprising an amuse bouche of 4 separate items, a salmon starter, chicken main course and dessert, again of 3 parts. Alternative dishes were offered to those with allergies etc. 42 members and guests attended and, from the volume of conversation, thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was also a birthday celebration for Bill Naisbitt, who received the usual “firework” dessert. “Could Brexit affect pension transfers out of the UK?     During your stay, you can visit different places in the surrounds of Aiguines: The Gorges du Verdon tour From Aiguines, drive down to the Sainte-Croix lake and Moustiers Sainte-Marie (faïence town). Just before arriving to Moustiers, drive towards La Palud-sur-Verdon on the Verdon right bank where you can appreciate Galetas panorama and Mayreste viewpoint. Once in La Palud, follow the route des Crêtes (D23), especially made-up to access easily the viewpoints on the Verdon and its cliffs (climbers’ paradise) . The road goes by the chalet de la Maline (Martel hike departure) and loops back to La Palud. Beware, the route des Crêtes is a one-way road. Then drive to Rougon where you can stop at the Point Sublime viewpoint, admire the entrance of Couloir Samson and perceive some vultures. Next, y ou follow the road via Castellane and Trigance, medieval village. You arrive then at the other side of the Verdon, the left bank: the Corniche Sublime towards Aiguines. All along the emerald green river, you will appreciate successive viewpoints: the Mescla (where Artuby river flows into the Verdon), the Artuby bridge, the Cavaliers cliffs, the Vaumal e cirque, the Col d'Illoire, before arriving in Aiguines. You will drive approximately 5 hours for this 100 kilometers road trip. The Valensole plateau Valensole is well-known for its huge lavender fields, mirrors of the blue sky of Pr ovence. Lavender offers bees’ excellent nectar. This latter is transformed into honey in numerous hives of bee-keepers of the surroundings. Situated 40 kilometers far from Aiguines.

Cela fait plus de 6 ans que la municipalité et Var m Habitat travaillent sur ce dossier qui avait du mal à trouver un équilibre u financier. Nous avons dû encore patienter quelques mois car les appels d d’offre sont revenus infructueux. Les entreprises ne voulaient pas faire ce t chantier à Correns … si loin de Brignoles et Toulon ! o Mais finalement le projet arrive à terme. Plusieurs raisons, à l'époque, nous m ont convaincus qu'il fallait agir : e • un manque chronique de logements abordables en Provence Verte et des l loyers trop lourds pour les personnes à revenus modestes ; • une difficulté pour les personnes âgées à Correns de trouver des logements accessibles et facilement habitables près du centre du village ; • une grande difficulté pour les jeunes de notre village de trouver des logements à des prix accessibles quand on commence dans la vie ; • une volonté que le projet s’inscrive dans la continuité architecturale de Correns, en poursuivant d’une manière harmonieuse le coté rue. Les logements seront attribués dans quelques semaines, tout le monde peut faire sa demande. Le choix répond à de nombreux critères qui nous sont imposés par les bailleurs de logements, la préfecture et les organismes financeurs.
