He has just signed for Spirit Motorcycles for the coming 2017 British Supersport Championship. And finally, congratulations to Allistair and his wife after the birth of their daughter Olivia-Grace Seeley on 7th of this month. A note from William Peoples. (EAOVC Committee Member) ‘ Thank-you all for coming along to this very special evening to celebrate the 25th Anniversary East Antrim Old Vehicle Club. I have been asked to organise this evening following success of last year’s Dinner Dance. Having accepted the challenge, I wanted to make the evening to remember and with the help of the committee members I trust it will be. To Commemorate the evening, I thought it would be nice to give something to each of the Club Members who came along and supported us tonight. Call it an Attendance Award rather than a Finishing Award. We came up with the idea of a silver tankard which has been very specially engraved. To cover the costs of the tankards, I have been seeking sponsorship over the last couple of weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cannon Motors, Carrickfergus for their very generous donation of £500. Of course we couldn’t forget the ladies and the small candle gifts given to each of the ladies earlier in the evening which were also kindly donated. I would also like to thank the ladies who decorated the tables and provided all the extras to make this a very special evening and a thank-you to each and every one of you who helped or contributed in any way, it’s all very much appreciated Finally thank-you again for coming and I trust you will enjoy the rest of the evening. ‘ William Peoples is the son of Billy Peoples (Left with his 1935 Austin Six Doctors Coupe) who was one of the founders of the club when they split with the Carrickfergus Tractor Club 25 years ago. This photo was taken at the Vintage Car Run 1992 organised by Action Cancer in Carricfergus This was at the very start of the club Thanks to the local businesses who supported this event Tonight we are celebrating the 25th year of the club started when the Carrickfergus Tractor Club split, and the East Antrim old Vehicle Club was formed. Among the founding members of the club was Eric Lynn, Dennis Higginson, John Magill,George Dornan, Mick Dowey and Billy Peoples, father of current club member William who is organiser for this event. The club first few meeting was held in the home of Dennis Higginson before moving to the Courtaulds Club. A few years later The Fergus Inn, as it was now know was opened and the club had found a permanent home. This, after a few name changes and a lot of renovations over the last 20 years is now the Belfast Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus Early Days with the East Antrim Old Vehicle Club and the current home of the Club as well as hosts for tonight’s Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance. This hotel has hosted our Annual Dinner Dance for most of the 25 years of the club, but this year, has helped us really push the boat out. Over the years the club has raised money by supporting charities in their fundraising days as well as the Annual Portrush Cavalcade, raising over £80,000 from the Cavalcade along. The club is open to all makes of vehicles registered before 31st December 1993, which gives the club a wide range of vehicles, from the early early nineteen thirties onwards. We are a diverse club with men and women, young and old, all that matters is the cars. More information about the club and the forthcoming runs can be found at the club website : www.eaovc.co.uk Thanks to the local businesses who supported this event The Portrush Cavalcade The Club has always participated in runs for local charities, it was no surprise when it was suggested that the club take on the Portrush Cavalcade. The Cavalcade was started by The Association of Old Vehicle Clubs (AOVC) in 1973 and ran through to the early 1990’s, which was a great success at the time. Our club, with sponsorship from E.A. Davies Insurance Ltd. Was originally just as a one off, but after it’s success it was decided to make this an annual event. The event, although now starting from Mossley Mill in Newtownabbey, is still the annual charity event for the club and is still sponsored by E.A.Davies. Jim Rodgers, Lord Mayor at the time was joined by (L-R) Robert Raj, George McCaig Paul McCloney, Donald Davies at the re launch of the Portrush Cavalcade in 2001 This years Cavalcade takes place on Sunday 6th August and will be raising money for this years charity Hope House, Ireland. The charity provide an apartment by the sea where those going through cancer could rest and recuperate, free of any charge and also to benefit anyone travelling long distances. This will be the 16th year the club has run this event. At present the club has raised over £80,000 and counting through this one event alone. Thanks to the local businesses who supported this event THE 2016 Cavalcade raised nearly £4000 for Crossroads Young Carers, the first charity in Northern Ireland that recognises the vital role that children play in caring for an ill/disabled member of the family. Here are some photos of the cars that took part in last years Cavacade. Thanks to the local businesses who supported this event The East Antrim Old Vehicle Club would like to thank all the local businesses that supported this event. They have contributed in either donations for the ballot or cash donations, or in some cases both, to help with cost of this evening event. If you would like to know more about the club please go to our website. The latest news and events are all there and remember you don’t have to be a member to take part in some of the events. All the forms and contact details are available to download as well as pictures and reports form past events. Our website is www.eaovc.co.uk And finally we hope that you enjoy your evening and let anyone that didn’t go know what they missed. Thanks to the local businesses who supported this event.
