General Characteristics of the District Sidhi District is a reflection of proud history of the state of Madhaya Pradesh. it makes the North-eastern boundary of the state. Sidhi district is a repository of natural historical and cultural history. This district is known for luxuriant natural resources with the river SONE draining the district. On one side the spectrum of its floristic socio-cultural diversity and ethnic history of tribal, the district has a panoramic view of the Kaimur, Kehejua and Ranimunda hills blazing with flowers of flame of forest and intoxicated by the sweet smell of mahua flowers. Sidhi is one of the six districts of Baghelkhand region and one of the remotest districts in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The troika of township, comprising of Waidhan-Vindhya Nagar -Singrauli in the district is the power hub of India. Sidhi is known for the six major thermal power plants located in Singrauli and in its neighborhood along with the second largest series of eleven active coal mine groups in Asia. Singrauli is also marked by the largest water reservoir in Rihand. 1.1 Location & Geographical Area. The district Sidhi is located in the northeastern part of Madhya Pradesh. It is approximately at a distance of 632 km from the state capital Bhopal and 80 km from circle head office, Rewa. It takes about sixteen hours from Bhopal to reach the district head quarter and the commonly adopted mode of transport is to travel by train from Bhopal to Rewa and then by bus from Rewa to Sidhi through a range of hills, called Kaimour hills, with an average height of 800 – 900 feet above sea level. The district shares its borders with the states of Chhattisgarh and Uttar Pradesh. The western and southern boundary of the district touches the border of Rewa and Shahdol districts respectively. 1. Location : 23.47 Degree North Latitude to 24.42 Degree North Latitude and 81.18 Degree East Longitude to 82.49 Degree East Longitude 3 2. Geographical Area : 4720 Sq.Km 3. Climate : Normal/hot 4. Average Rain fall : 1303 mm 1.2 Topography Sidhi district is located on the Northeastern Boundary of the state between 23.47 and 24.42 Degree North Latitude and 81.18 and 82.49 Degree East longitude. The district is also known as the northeastern frontier of the state. From east to west it covers a distance of 155 km and from and from north to south the total stretch covered by the district is 95 Km. The district is spread across a total geographical area of 4720 sq. Km.. The highest topographic elevation in the district is 609 m. above sea level in Chitrangi and the lowest is 487 m. above sea level in the plains of Majhauli block. The Son River traverses the district flowing from west to east. Our watershed area lies in between these two boundaries of Kaimour hills and Son River. The total area of the district is 4720 sq. km. 4 1.3 Availability of Minerals The district is has at least 30 types of ores and composite mineral deposits. Earth or bharat, sand and gravel is an important minor minerals extracted in the district. Small deposits of low-grade iron ore along with Monazites and Barites are other ores that occur in many locations across the district. Sporadic and some concentrated occurrence of granite veins were reported from the district. Similarly some low-grade copper and coal deposits were also recorded in various parts of Sidhi district. 5 PRODUCTION OF MINERAL 2010-11 S.NO. The total area or about 175160 Hectares has dense canopied forest of the five blocks of district, Kusmi have significant forest cover (mixed tropical deciduous forests). The forests are also source for variety of N.T.F.Ps. like Mahua, Chironji, Tendu etc., which are an important source of livelihood for population residing in the close vicinity of the forests. 6 1.5 Administrative set up. 1.     Build Your Own Success Story! FOREST OF MADHYA PRADESH As per the report (ISFR) MP has the largest forest cover in the country followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Forest Cover (Area-wise): Madhya Pradesh> Arunachal Pradesh> Chhattisgarh> Odisha> Maharashtra. Forest Cover (Percentage): Mizoram (85.4%)> Arunachal Pradesh (79.63%)> Meghalaya (76.33%) According to India State of Forest Report the recorded forest area of the state is 94,689 sq. km which is 30.72% of its geographical area. According to Indian state of forest Report (ISFR – 2019) the total forest cover in M.P. increased to 77,482.49 sq km which is 25.14% of the states geographical area. The forest area in MP is increased by 68.49 sq km. The first forest policy of Madhya Pradesh was made in 1952 and the second forest policy was made in 2005. Madhya Pradesh has a total of 925 forest villages of which 98 forest villages are deserted or located in national part and sanctuaries. MP is the first state to nationalise 100% of the forests. Among the districts, Balaghat has the densest forest cover, with 53.44 per cent of its area covered by forests. Ujjain (0.59 per cent) has the least forest cover among the districts In terms of forest canopy density classes: Very dense forest covers an area of 6676 sq km (2.17%) of the geograhical area. Moderately dense forest covers an area of 34, 341 sqkm (11.14% of geograhical area). Open forest covers an area of 36, 465 sq km (11.83% of geographical area) Madhya Pradesh has 0.06 sq km.

Sidhi is prone to natural as well as man- made disasters. Earthquake, Drought, Epidemic (Malaria) are the major Natural Hazards and forest fire, rail/ road accidents etc. are the main man-made disaster of the district. The Disaster Management plan includes facts and figures those have been collected from various departments. This plan is first attempt of the district administration and is a comprehensive document which contains various chapters and each chapter has its own importance. The plan consist Hazard & Risk Assessment, Institutional Mechanism, Response Mechanism, Standard Operating Procedure, inventory of Resources etc. Hazard & Risk Assessment is done on the basis of past thirty year disaster data & is collected from all departments. It is suggested that the District level officials of different department will carefully go through the plan and if have any suggestions & comments be free to convey the same so that same can be included in the next edition. It is hoped that the plan would provide concrete guidelines towards preparedness and quick response in case of an emergency and help in realizing sustainable Disaster Risk Reduction & mitigate/minimizes the losses in the district in the long run.
