2012 Arctic Winter Games TEAM NT Volleyball NWT Volleyball Athlete Selection Policy 1. Goals of team selection NWTVA wants to ensure that the top athletes in the NWT represent the sport of Volleyball at the 2012 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse. Opportunities should be provided to athletes from across the NWT to be selected as a member of the Team NWT. The goal is to have teams be competitive, play cohesively and display good sportsmanship. NWTVA believes that these goals can be attained by selecting athletes that are physically fit and technically skilled and display the appropriate attitudinal qualities. 2. Eligibility to be considered for team selection Athletes must meet the eligibility requirements specified in the Team NWT - General Rules for the 2012 Arctic Winter Games (see http://www.sportnorth.com/). For the sport of volleyball, the age range shall include athletes born in 1992 or later. Athletes must be members in good standing with both NWT Volleyball and Volleyball Canada. Athletes must be in attendance at the Territorial Selection Camp, there will be no direct entry to the team. 3. Registration Process Regional Registrationi Since NWT Volleyball will not be holding regional camps for 2012 Arctic Winter Games, athlete evaluations will be done at the Territorial camp. To be identified as a candidate for attendance at the Territorial Selection Camp, each athlete must: a) Register with Sport North by filling out the appropriate form, and paying the $50 fee by October 31, 2011 b) Attach a signed letter by their coach or recreation coordinator indicating the athlete possesses adequate skills to be invited to the territorial camp. (Evaluation form provided by NWTVA) If more than 30 Male and 30 Female participants are identified, the Head Coaches (or Appointed Evaluator) will identify the top 30 Male and Female athletes from the evaluation forms provided during the regional selection at Sr.Spike IT in Yellowknife, November 4-6, 2011. Athletes will be informed by November 10, 2011 so they can register for the Territorial Selection Camp by November 14, 2011. Territorial Registration After being identified to attend the Territorial Selection camp each athlete must: a) Register with Sport North by paying the $100 fee, b) Register for the NWT Volleyball Territorial Selection camp using the online National Registration System for Volleyball Canada (https://nrs.volleyball.ca) 4. General scheme At the Territorial Selection Camp, an evaluation committee will use a set of physical, technical, attitudinal and subjective criteria and team composition considerations to rate athletes. The Evaluation Committee will base its selection on the combined scoring of committee members. The top 10 athletes will be selected, with the 11th, 12th and 13th ranked athletes will be designated as alternates. These athletes may be added to the roster if one or more of the original team members are removed from the roster prior to the AWG competition. Where the Committee members cannot agree on how to resolve an important tie in rankings (i.e. 10th and 11th or 13th and 14th) the final decision will rest with the AWG Male/Female Head Coach.
