The team will receive chassis, engines and technical support from Hendrick Motorsports. The press conference takes place at the IMS Productions studios across from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In a press conference at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Stewart announces that Aug. 15, 2008 Ryan Newman will be his teammate at SHR and drive the No. 4 Chevrolet beginning in 2009. Stewart announces on SIRIUS’ “Tony Stewart Live” that Newman will drive the No. 39 Chevrolet instead of the No. 4.
