  • All-Nfc North Team
ALL-NFC NORTH TEAM By Bob McGinn Posted: Dec. 31, 2005 Scouts from each of the NFC North teams were asked last week to rank the top three players in the division at each position. They were not permitted to vote for their own players, and none of the comments that follow in the position-by-position rundown was made by a scout about a player on his own team. A first-place vote was worth three points, a second-place vote was worth two and a third-place vote was worth one. Asterisks denote unanimous selections. OFFENSE NO. 1 WIDE RECEIVER: *Muhsin Muhammad (Chi.), 9 points. Others: Donald Driver (GB), 7; Roy Williams (Det.), 5; Travis Taylor (Minn.), 3. Comments: Muhammad dropped 11 passes and cost the Bears $12 million in signing bonus, but he was light years better than the No. 1 from '94, David Terrell. "It's a bad group," one scout said. "If (Rex) Grossman had been the quarterback it'd have been easier to determine where Muhammad is at in his career." Driver had one of his finest seasons. "He's still a better 2 than he is a 1," one scout said. Williams ranks as a two-year disappointment. "He has to understand the difference between being hurt and being injured," one scout said. LEFT TACKLE: Chad Clifton (GB), 8. Others: Jeff Backus (Det.) and John Tait (Chi.), 6; Bryant McKinnie (Minn.), 4. Comments: Clifton had too many penalties but made first team for the third year in a row. "He's close to elite," one scout said.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA lEW§ Bierman Field Athletic Building 516 15th Avenue Southeast Minneapolis, i\ 5455 (612) 625-4090 Fax 625-0359 For Immediate Release Dec. 4, 1999 NATHANIEL WITHDRAWS FROM BASKETBALL TEAM TO PURSUE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Junior guard Kevin Nathaniel has decided to withdraw from the Golden Gopher basketball team and pursue an employment opportunity. Nathaniel has missed the first five games of the season with a foot injury. A starter in 22 games last season, Nathaniel came to Minnesota from the Air Force where he was a canine specialist and military police officer. The employment opportunity is at a school in Illinois that specializes in this field and will allow him work and finish his college education. "I have been wrestling with this decision for a couple of weeks," said Nathaniel. "It is a great opportunity to work in a field I enjoy and have experience in and it will pay for the rest of my educational costs. It was a tough decision because I'm really like Coach Monson and the new staff and I think things are headed in the right direction. I will always remember the great experiences I had as a member of the team. The Minnesota fans are the greatest and I will really miss my teammates. In my heart I will always be a Golden Gopher." Nathaniel averaged 4.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists last seasons and was an Academic All-Big Ten selection. He posted a 4.0 GPA last spring and was named aU of M scholar athlete.

PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Team History When the Seattle Seahawks took the field for the first time in the 1976 season, it marked the culmination of a quest for a National Football League franchise that had its roots in the Pacific Northwest metropolis as early as 1957. That is when discussion first began about the possibilities of constructing a domed stadium that would assure a major league sports franchise for the city. On June 4, 1974, the NFL awarded its 28th franchise to Seattle to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome. A civic suggestion campaign netted 20,365 entries and 1,741 different names, but “Seahawks” was selected and announced on June 17, 1975. Just a little more than two months later, after a 27-day sale, the season ticket campaign was shut off with 59,000 tickets sold. On January 3, 1976, Jack Patera, who had been a Minnesota assistant coach, was named the team’s first head coach. The Seahawks finished 2-12 in 1976, when they played in the NFC, and 5-9 in 1977, when they moved into the AFC. The Seahawks had winning 9-7 records in both 1978 and 1979 and Patera was named NFL Coach of the Year the second year. The strike-shortened 1982 season proved to be a transitional year for all of pro football, but no club fit the transitional description better than the Seahawks. Patera was removed after six-plus years as head coach. Mike McCormack finished the season as interim head coach and then was replaced in 1983 by Chuck Knox, who guided the Seahawks to an 83-67-0 record in nine seasons up through the 1991 campaign.

  • Evaluating Talent Acquisition Via the NFL Draft
Evaluating Talent Acquisition Via the NFL Draft by Casey Barney Anthony Caravella Michael Cullen Gary Jackson Craig E. Wills WPI-CS-TR-13-01 March 2013 1 Executive Summary In this work we apply data analytics to the National Football League Draft enabling us to pose and seek answers to a number of interesting questions regarding the success of drafting players over the period 2000 through the most recent 2012 draft and league season. The analysis is based on measuring the cost of acquiring players through the draft and the success of these players once acquired. We employ two primary metrics for measuring the cost of drafted players. The first simply uses the round in which a player is taken while the second uses a table of draft pick values initially developed within the NFL in the early 1990s. We also employ two metrics for measuring the success of drafted players where the first assigns a value to each player’s performance for a season. The second was developed as part of this work and is based on a weighted score for games played, games started and recognition as a top player. Using these metrics, we examine many questions of interest. We first examine which teams have drafted the best using combinations of cost and success metrics for all 32 NFL teams. If we ignore costs then Green Bay is the team that has drafted the best players since 2000 with New England and San Francisco close behind. In contrast, Washington has acquired the least amount of talent via the draft.

  • The 6Th Annual Fantasy Football League Draft Will Be Held on Saturday, August 12
TO ALL FFL OWNERS: The 6th annual Fantasy Football League Draft will be held on Saturday, August 12. The NFC will draft at 7:00 and the AFC will draft at 8:30. If you don't know what conference you are in then look at the standings from last year. It will be held at the my house in Loves Park, 650 Sydney Avenue. If you can not attend, please contact me as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made. We have made a number of rule changes this year so be sure to read through the rules that are contained here. The highlights are a reduction in rosters to 14 players per team, an increase in the entry fee to $25, only 4 teams making the playoffs from each conference, and expansion. We are adding 4 new teams to the league, two in each conference. The expansion teams throw a couple of new wrinkles into the league. First, we will have to realign the divisions in each conference; we are going to 3 divisions of 4 teams each. Also, there will be an additional expansion draft after all teams have protected their players. More later. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at (319) 425-5421. Aaron FANTASY FOOTBALL LEAGUE TEAMS: Each team consists of 14 players. The players have one of four positions: quarterback, running back, receiver, and kicker. Each team will also have an injured reserve list that they may place a player on if the player is put on the injured reserve list by his NFL team.
