Mycosphere 8(1), 218–359, Doi 10.5943/mycosphere/8/1/16 Abstract Meliolales is the largest order of epifoliar fungi, characterized by branched, dark brown, superficial mycelium with two-celled hyphopodia; superficial, globose to subglobose, dark brown perithecia, and septate, dark brown ascospores. The assumption of host-specificity means this group a highly diverse and it is imperative to identify the host before attempting to identify a fungal collection. This paper has compiled information from fungal and plant databases, including all fungal species of Meliolales and their host information from protologues. Current names of plants and corresponding fungi with integration of their synonyms are made into an alphabetical checklist, and references are provided. Exclusions and spelling conflicts of fungal species are also listed. Statistics show that the order comprises 2403 species (including 106 uncertain species), infecting among 194 host families, with an additional 20 excluded records. This checklist will be useful for the future identifications and classifications of Meliolales. -

Data was gathered from direct observations of phenological events from 1989 to 2007 from marked and unmarked trees in different sites in the Osa Peninsula. Flowering and fruiting peaks were observed during the dry season (Decem- ber to March), with a second fruiting peak observed in the middle of the rainy season. We observed a large diversity in pheno- logical patterns, but similar numbers of species flowered and produced fruit in the dry and rainy season. A reduction in the num- ber of species in reproduction occurs in the months with the highest precipitation (August to October). Comparison of Osa phe- nological data with the phenology of wet and dry forests from Costa Rica and Panamá showed some similarities in the timing of phenological events. However, Osa species display a shift in phenological events with an earlier onset of flower and fruit produc- tion in comparison with other sites. -

Groenewald1 Key words Abstract Species of Leucadendron, Leucospermum and Protea (Proteaceae) are in high demand for the interna- tional floriculture market due to their brightly coloured and textured flowers or bracts. Fungal pathogens, however, biodiversity create a serious problem in cultivating flawless blooms. The aim of the present study was to characterise several cut-flower industry of these pathogens using morphology, culture characteristics, and DNA sequence data of the rRNA-ITS and LSU fungal pathogens genes. In some cases additional genes such as TEF 1- and CHS were also sequenced. Based on the results of ITS α this study, several novel species and genera are described. Brunneosphaerella leaf blight is shown to be caused by LSU three species, namely B. jonkershoekensis on Protea repens, B. nitidae sp. nov. on Protea nitida and B. protearum phylogeny on a wide host range of Protea spp. (South Africa). Coniothyrium-like species associated with Coniothyrium leaf systematics spot are allocated to other genera, namely Curreya grandicipis on Protea grandiceps, and Microsphaeropsis proteae on P. nitida (South Africa). Diaporthe leucospermi is described on Leucospermum sp. (Australia), and Diplodina microsperma newly reported on Protea sp. (New Zealand). Pyrenophora blight is caused by a novel species, Pyrenophora leucospermi, and not Drechslera biseptata or D. -

These are the phylogenetic approaches and incorporation of molecular biological techniques, particularly the analysis of DNA nucleotide sequences, into modern systematics. This new concept has been found particularly appropriate for fungal groups in which no sexual reproduction has been observed (deuteromycetes). Taking this view during last five years surveys were conducted to explore the Ascomatal fungal diversity in natural forests of Western Ghats of Maharashtra. In the present study, various areas were visited in different forest ecosystems of Western Ghats and collected the live, dried, senescing and moribund leaves, logs, stems etc. This multipronged effort resulted in the collection of more than 1000 samples with identification of more than 300 species of fungi belonging to Phylum Ascomycota. The fungal genera and species were classified in accordance to Dictionary of fungi (10th edition) and Index fungorum (http://www.indexfungorum.org). Studies conducted revealed that fungal taxa belonging to phylum Ascomycota (316 species, 04 varieties in 177 genera) ruled the fungal communities and were represented by sub phylum Pezizomycotina (316 species and 04 varieties belonging to 177 genera) which were further classified into two categories: (1). -
