The mission of t he Task Force wa s to help those interested in a new s chool explore various models for such a school and to determine whether there is sufficient need and inter est i n the community so as to assure the viabi lit y of the model which they envision. Site visits to seven schools we re organized and various members of the Task Force participated in thos e visits which t ook pl ace between November 1992 and Janua ry 1993. The visits were very informative and r esulted in many of fer s of fur ther assistance. The participants were: Eli ot Arnovi tz, Chair, Steve Berman, Elaine Blumenthal, Perry Brickman, Immediate Past President of the Federation, Lynne Halpern, Larry Joseph, and Felicia Weber. -

There, he captains the Model UN and cross- country teams and serves as the head of the school's AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) club. In addition, he participates in Mock Trial, NHS, Kolenu (the high school choir), and the ultimate Frisbee team. Outside of school, Jonathan frequently reads the Torah portion and leads the services at Congregation Netivot Shalom, the Modern Orthodox synagogue he and his family founded, and now attend. In his free time, Jonathan loves running, reading, and singing -- especially traditional Jewish songs. He is greatly excited to be a Bronfman Fellow and looks forward to an inspiring and insightful summer. Hannah Bashkow is currently a junior at Tandem Friends School. Before that, she attended the Charlottesville Waldorf School through eighth grade. She and her family are members of Charlottesville’s Congregation Beth Israel, where they regularly attend the Saturday morning traditional egalitarian minyan. At the synagogue, she works as a Hebrew tutor and helps kids prepare for their b’nei mitzvah. She is an enthusiastic artist who enjoys working in many media. In past summers, she has attended Nature Camp, a local field ecology camp, and has traveled with her family to Israel, Europe, and Papua New Guinea. Sarah Bock is a junior at Scarsdale High School and a member of Westchester Reform Temple. At SHS, Sarah is a member of Signifer, which functions as Scarsdale’s Honor Society, as well as a peer tutoring program. She is on the school’s cross country and track teams and is a member of the Pratham club, which raises money to fund women’s education in India. -

Faith Schools and Tolerance: a comparative study of the influence of faith schools on students' attitudes of tolerance. Word count (exclusive of appendices, list of references and bibliography): 97,743 words Helen Everett March 2012 2 Abstract Faith Schoolsand Tolerance: a comparative study of the influence of faith schoolson students' attitudes of tolerance. Faith schools constitute approximately one third of all state-maintained schools and two fifths ofthe independent schools in England. Nevertheless they have historically been, and remain, controversial. In the current social climate questions have been raised about the ability of faith schools to promote Community Cohesion and, included within that, their ability to promote tolerance. This research explores one aspect of this debate by looking at the effect that faith schools have on their students' attitudes of tolerance. As well as asking what differences exist between students in faith and non-faith schools it also looks at which aspects of the schools might be impacting on the students and affecting their attitudes of tolerance. Using a mixed methods approach, this research looks at six English secondary schools, including a range of faith as well as non-faith schools, and from both state and independent sectors. The complexity and multiple meanings associated with the term tolerance are explored, incorporating different understandings and objects oftolerance.
