    CHAPTER 1 1.1 AIM, PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION OF THE STUDY This thesis attempts to reconstruct the manner and the effects of the forced removal of the Ravele community, from their historical homes in old Mauluma1 along the Luvuvhu River Valley. Luvuvhu is the name given to a river that dominates the area under discussion. The name Luvuvhu’ is retained until, it enters Kruger National Park, where the Vatsongas call it Phafuri - as the river flows through Chief Mphaphuli’s territory. After relocation, the whole area under discussion is now known as Levubu. Levubu is corruption of the word Luvuvhu by the local white farming community. Old Mauluma in the Luvuvhu valley was situated on the North Eastern part of Louis Trichardt. More or less 3000 Ravele community members were forcibly removed from their land, between 1920 and 1940 to new Mauluma or Beaconsfields.2 The removal constituted a severe crisis for the members of the community as they were taken from a rich ecological area and resettled 100 kilometres west of old Mauluma, a dry and rocky area. A study of the Ravele community’s removal from old Mauluma (Levubu area) is especially pertinent at this juncture because of the campaign by the previous owners to reclaim their land. Since the April 1994 election and the promise by the government that dispossessed people could reclaim their land, hundreds of the former Levubu residents (including Ravele community) have demanded compensation or return to their land. Not surprisingly, the campaign has the support of all those who were removed, but is viewed with suspicion by white farmers in Levubu and surrounding areas.

In his State of the Nation Address on 10 February 2017, President Jacob Zuma said government has made progress on key areas packaged in the Nine Point Plan to reignite growth so that the economy can create much-needed jobs. He said the focus areas include industrialization, mining and beneficiation, Agriculture and agro Processing, energy, SMMEs, managing work place conflict, attracting investments, growing the oceans economy and tourism. He said other areas added include cross-cutting areas such as science and technology; Water and sanitation Infrastructure; Transport Infrastructure; and Broadband Rollout. Musina Municipality is also moving towards the same direction to assist government to achieve the set goals. We are striving towards a more integrated planning approach whereby we seamlessly integrate our IDP, budget and performance management system with one another while simultaneously aligning our planning to National and Provincial plans and frameworks, specifically the National Development Plan 2030.

"Independent" has been chosen in this study to indicate the historic differentiation between the mainline, or Euro-centric churches and the churches that originated without being institutionally bound to the mainline churches. struggle, as was the case in Zimbabwe, nor by the coming into being of the Ethiopian churches, which started mostly in the urban areas and metropolitan cities. The purpose of establishing the new movements by the indigenous people, was not a move to ostracise the white missionaries, who introduced Christian religion. With the result that their beliefs and practices were not interwoven into the Christian religion. From a historical point of view, Jesus Christ had a very large contingent following Him all the time during His ministry on earth. The most important reason was, not to hear the Word of God, but to witness miracles when the invalids were healed. Eternal life to them was something far-fetched, as they cherished the present life. The Indigenous people regarded healing as a physical restoration of the discomfort in the body. The Vhavenda regarded a physical cure as paramount to the life hereafter. According to the Vhavenda, security and protection against evil was of a great significance. When the pioneers of the Independent Churches caused a schism from the mainline churches, they made faith healing the 162 cornerstone of the Gospel.
