  • Formation of Management Knowledge in Tourism: the Romanian Case
ANALELE ŞTIIN ŢIFICE ALE UNIVERSIT ĂŢ II „ALEXANDRU IOAN CUZA” DIN IA ŞI Num ăr special Ştiin ţe Economice 2010 FORMATION OF MANAGEMENT KNOWLEDGE IN TOURISM: THE ROMANIAN CASE Bogdan BACANU Transilvania University of Brasov Brasov, Romania [email protected] Abstract The present work analyses the creation of management knowledge in the Romanian tourism, fo- cusing on the contribution of the academic environment due to the accomplishment of specialized syllabuses. The choice of topic is motivated by the state of the Romanian tourism, characterized by a poor economic performance and by negative quotidian manifestations. The present situation of the management knowledge is reflected in the educational standard of the tourism executives, owners and managers, and also within the university educational framework related to this field. The university segment dealing with the management knowledge formation is ana- lyzed from the point of view related to its affiliation to a specialized educational system. The influence of the significant elements belonging to all the educational links is referred to the performance ex- pected. An overview of general characteristics of the present managers and owners in this industry in Romania explain the different and divergent positions of the academics and the entrepreneurs and the difficulty of a real knowledge exchange. The implicit hypothesis is the existence of a consistent gap between the necessities and compe- tences desired in the tourism management and the results of academic education. The expected result of the work is the identification of some specific causes of Romanian poor economic performance in tourism, despite the so-called potential of national resources.

(03'08) Total Time . (61'42) Interview with Kai Strobel You have become one of the most promising percussionists of your generation. What led you to play percussion? A childhood dream or chance? KS Actually both. I started playing percussion because of my older brother Marc, who was encouraged to learn how to play at an early age by our parents. My mother, a trained ac- cordionist and conductor, was particularly attracted to percussion instruments during her studies; and she was accordingly very supportive when my brother showed an interest in them. After our cellar had become well equipped with all these amazing instruments, even I couldn’t help but be fascinated by them and wanted to begin as soon as possible! What is it about the instrument that appeals to you? KS The wide variety of instruments and their versatility have always fascinated me! In ad- dition to my classical training, I took jazz drum lessons, was part of my school’s big band and toured with them throughout the USA, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
