2020 November Newsletter Newsletter November 2020 From the Vicar’s Desk Dearly beloved in Christ, Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the 21st Mar Thoma of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church is taken to be with Our Lord at 2.38 AM on Oct 18 2020 (IST). Immanuel Mar Thoma Church will ever remember with gratitude to God the outstanding leadership of His grace during the past thirteen years as metropolitan and sixty-three years of priestly ministry. His grace’s life was a blessed one. The Metropolitan will be remembered for his passion for our liturgy, firm decision making, cutting edge crisis management, his commitment to so- cial causes, and as a leader who was not image conscious and was ready to risk popular opinion. I experienced that Tirumeni always placed the Christ and Church over everything. With Tirumeni’s tough exterior people hardly knew his compassionate side. I regret that the Church couldn’t explore the fullness of Thirumeni’s theological and historical consciousness. He was very clear in his Theology and sharp in placing people and events in history. He was an encyclo- pedia in this regard. I personally experienced the fatherly care from Tirumeni. Let us thank God for raising a leader like the Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan. May his memory be Eternal. God who provided Joshua after the death of a great leader like Moses, will lead us ahead as well. May God strengthen Geevarghese Mar Theodocious suffragan Metropolitan to lead the church in the coming days. Installation ceremony of the New Metropolitan will be held on November 14th. I urge everyone to kindly uphold our church in your personal prayers. The church celebrates the first Sunday of November as "Kudosh Etho" (Sanctification of the Church) the Sunday with which the liturgical year begins in the Eastern Churches, which is followed by the Sunday of "Hudoth ‘Edto" (The renewal of the church). The Holy Church is exhorting her children to be holy and provides means to attain the sanctification. Repentance is the pre-requisite of sanctification. We should not forget that the first message of our Lord during the beginning of His blessed Public Mission was to “Repent and believe the Gospel”. The following six Sundays of the liturgical year refer all important Scriptural events and aspects until the birth of our Lord. Thus, the first season of the liturgical year, namely the annunciation period, presents the great mystery of Incarnation. The Nativity-fast (25 days lent) falls in this period. 2 Immanuel Mar Thoma Church Newsletter November 2020 From the Vicar’s Desk…... Cont’d The Church celebrate World Sunday School Day on 1st of November. Robert Raikes and Thomas Stock first started Sunday school for the poor and orphaned children in Gloucester, England in 1780. The purpose of the Sunday school is to provide a solid Christian foundation for the children to go out into the world and share their faith and do good works. The motto of Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam, (which was established on 25 February 1905) is "Come to Jesus; bring every Child to Jesus." Sunday School Teachers under the leadership of Superintendent Mrs. Aksa Alex is providing the Christian nur- turing to our children in best possible ways during this pandemic. I appreciate their genuine interest to share the Christian values and praying for God’s blessings upon them. Our parish observes the second Sunday of November as the Yuvajana Sakhyam Sunday and Youth convention will be 6&7. Dr. James Thomas, Dr. Saji Philip and Rev. Dr. Mothy Varkey will be the speakers. Our parish conven- tion will be held from November 12-14. Rev. Alexander Thomas, Rev. Dr. Sham P. Thomas and Rev George Varghese will be the giving the messages. On Parish Day, November 15th Sunday, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Mar Paulos will be giving the Parish day message. Thanksgiving is the festival of remembering people who sacrificed their lives for our wellbeing. In the Bible we can see, most of the psalms are written as an expression of thanksgiving. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 2Cor- rintians:9:15 "Thanks be to God for his indescribable gifts." Even for small re- ceiving, we should train our children to say thanks to God and the others. I wish everyone a happy thanksgiving. This year we are compelled to cancel the House to House carolling dur- ing the Christmas season. From March onwards we couldn’t gather together in the Church for worship. A limited number of people are gathering at Church. I am happy that everyone is using the technology to participate in the worship remotely. Always remember this Pandemic should not separate us from God or from Church or from the fellowship with one another. May the Almighty God be with us in our faith journey during this pandemic and bless us With prayers Anu Achen 3 Immanuel Mar Thoma Church Newsletter November 2020 WORSHIP SCHEDULES (NOVEMBER 2020) (World Sunday School 1st Lesson: Prov 23:15-26 Day) 2nd Lesson: Heb 12:1-13 Epistle: 1John 2:7-17 01-Nov 10:30 AM Gospel: John 6:1-14 English Holy Communion Service (Yuvajana Sakhyam 1st Lesson: Mic 6:1-8 Day) 2nd Lesson: 2Cor 4:7-15 Epistle: 1Cor 12:12-20 08-Nov 10:30 AM Gospel: Luke 10:1-9 Malayalam Holy Communion Service (Parish Day) 1st Lesson: 1Chr 24:1-19 2nd Lesson: Heb 5:1-10 15-Nov 8:30 AM Malayalam Holy Communion Epistle: 2Cor 2:12-17 Service Gospel: Luke 1:5-23 (Annunciation to Virgin 1st Lesson: Zech 2:10-13 Mary) 2nd Lesson: 1John 3:1-16 Epistle: Eph 1:3-10 22-Nov 10:30 AM English Holy Communion Gospel: Luke 1:26-38 Service (Visitation of Virgin Mary to 1st Lesson: Gen 18:1-16 Elizabeth) 2nd Lesson: 1Pet 1:8-12 29-Nov 10:30 AM Epistle: 2Cor 1:3-11 English Holy Communion Gospel: Luke 1:39-45 Service Church Services can be viewed thru YouTube. OF TbE INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE Superintendent ql Census Operations, KeTola and the Union Territory of Laccadive, Minicoy and Amindivi Islands PUBLISHED BY THE MANAGER OF PUBLICATIONS. DELHI-8 PRINTED AT THB C. M. S. PRESS. KOTfAYAM 1968 PRICE: Delux.e Rs. 20.00 or 46 sh. 8 d. or $ 7.20 cents Ordinary Rs.8.75 or 20 sh. 5 d. or $ 3.15 cents PREFACE It is one of the unique features of the 1961 Cell3us that a comprehensive survey was conducted about the fairs and festivals of the country. Apart from the fact that it is the first systematic attempt as far as Kerala is concerned, its particular value lay in presenting a record of these rapidly vanishing cultural heritage. The Census report on fairs and festivals consists of two publications, Part VII B (i), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala containing the descriptive portion and Part VII B (ii), Fairs and Festivals of Kerala-Statements giving the tables relating to the fairs and festivals. The first part has already been published in 1966. It is the second part that is presented in this book. This publication is entirely a compilation of the statements furnished by various agencies like the Departments of Health Services, Police, Local Bodies, Revenue and the Devaswom Boards of Travancore and Cochin. This is something like a directory of fairs and festivals in the State arranged according to di'>tricts and taluks, which might excite the curiosity of the scholars who are interested in investigating the religiou, centres and festivals.
