PATERSON MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH APRIL 26, 2021 ARSON INVESTIGATION

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora, and Paterson Fire Chief Brian McDermott announce the arrest of Reshawn Evans, 27 years old, of Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Evans was arrested without incident on May 24, 2021 after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Unit, the Paterson Police Department, and the Paterson Fire Department.

Mr. Evans is charged with one count of second degree Aggravated Arson.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Evans set a fire inside a garbage can in a vestibule at the Bank of America located at 190 Main Street in Paterson, New Jersey on April 26, 2021. The fire did not affect any adjoining structures, and there were no injuries.

The sentencing range on second degree Aggravated Arson is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.

Mr. Evans appeared at Central Judicial Processing Court this afternoon. The State has filed a motion for the pretrial detention of Mr. Evans, which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge later this week.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
