Part of this responsibility, I believe, is to introduce areas that we may explore to generate growth. As I offer these different ideas and options please understand I have one motivation, to do my best to serve the membership of the NSHR. The extent to which any of my personal ideas become implemented is at the discretion of the BOD and ultimately you as members. In the end without your support and hard work none of these initiatives can succeed. I appreciate you reading the opinion pieces I have written. When something charges you up either negatively or positively, please let me know. No matter which direction we go we are going to need committed members willing to work towards our goals. At this time I see three options for us. You may have others. We would appreciate hearing them. One option would be following the Saddleseat discipline related opportunities that SHA can give us as outlined in our previous magazine. Another would be to follow the suggestions published in this issue. The third option would be to follow the status quo and wait for something in our existing framework to re-emerge. This option will also require us to make more cuts and become less visible. I am personally not in favor of that. We are not without options. I don’t believe waiting will be in the NSHR’s best interest. I also look forward to sharing my “Butts in the Seats” program in our next issue. This program revolves around outreach. It will combine education, sponsorship and charity. This program will require a great deal of work with endless rewards. Thank you and God Bless, David Mikosz NSHR Chairman of the Board NATIONAL SHOW HORSE 2 RON ADLER 1956-2008 by Anne Booten on Adler, 52 of Miami Beach, Florida, died September 26, 2008 after an extended illness. Ron R grew up in Miami Beach, Florida, and was a graduate of Florida State University. He had an extremely successful business as an entertainer and DJ before his Ron Adler illness kept him from his work. Robert Peebles hired Ron for the first National Show Horse Finals at Rock Creek in Louisville, Kentucky. Ron changed the atmosphere of horse shows ever since. With his rockin’ music and clown like antics he brought a fun and light hearted spirit to the show and stamped the NSH Finals as the party of the year. He was a professional clown and also contributed to many charitable events especially involving the local Jaycees. You always knew when Ron was in the room—he made everyone laugh. He is survived by the many friends he left behind. • List of Horse Breeds 1 List of Horse Breeds
List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed". The breeds and types listed here are those that already have a Wikipedia article. For a more extensive list, see the List of all horse breeds in DAD-IS. Heavy or draft horse breeds For additional information, see horse breed, horse breeding and the individual articles listed below.

II. : THE deiterol STUD BOOK, CONTAINING PEDIGREES OF RACE HORSES, &C. &-C. From the earliest Accounts to the Year 1831. inclusice. ITS FOUR VOLUMES. VOL. II. Brussels PRINTED FOR MELINE, CANS A.ND C"., EOILEVARD DE WATERLOO, Zi. M DCCC XXXIX. MR V. un:ve PREFACE TO THE FIRST EDITION. To assist in the detection of spurious and the correction of inaccu- rate pedigrees, is one of the purposes of the present publication, in which respect the first Volume has been of acknowledged utility. The two together, it is hoped, will form a comprehensive and tole- rably correct Register of Pedigrees. It will be observed that some of the Mares which appeared in the last Supplement (whereof this is a republication and continua- tion) stand as they did there, i. e. without any additions to their produce since 1813 or 1814. — It has been ascertained that several of them were about that time sold by public auction, and as all attempts to trace them have failed, the probability is that they have either been converted to some other use, or been sent abroad. If any proof were wanting of the superiority of the English breed of horses over that of every other country, it might be found in the avidity with which they are sought by Foreigners. The exportation of them to Russia, France, Germany, etc. for the last five years has been so considerable, as to render it an object of some importance in a commercial point of view.
