FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Boesch, Everett, Inge, Jackson, Porcello, Sizemore & Verlander to provide Detroit-area students with an unforgettable day at the ballpark Detroit, Mi., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 — Prior to this evening’s game at Comerica Park in Detroit, Tigers players Brennan Boesch, Adam Everett, Brandon Inge, Austin Jackson, Rick Porcello, Scott Sizemore and Justin Verlander helped provide everlasting memories to a group of 50 students from the University Prep Academy, as the Major League Baseball Players Trust’s “Buses for Baseball” program motored into Detroit. Courtesy of the players’ charitable foundation, the students received round-trip transportation to the game, met the players, and received free tickets, food, beverages and souvenirs. This season, “Buses for Baseball” will provide transportation and personal greetings for more than 1,500 underprivileged children attending Major League Baseball games as invited guests of their big league heroes. “Buses for Baseball” will provide many of the children with their first chance to attend a Major League Baseball game. The Players Trust enjoys support from the Detroit Tigers organization in providing this unique, up close and personal opportunity to share the thrill of Major League Baseball with those less fortunate. A’s News Clips, Saturday, July 23, 2011 New York Yankees put hurt on Trevor Cahill, Oakland A's in 17-7 romp By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune NEW YORK -- Trevor Cahill took his struggles against the New York Yankees to another level Friday night at Yankee Stadium. The A's right-hander was charged with a career-high 10 earned runs in a 17-7 blowout defeat to open a three-game series. The A's have now lost 11 straight to the Yankees. Cahill allowed nine hits and lasted just two-plus innings in the shortest start of his career. After being staked to a 2-0 lead, he allowed five runs in the bottom of the second. Then he allowed Nick Swisher's three-run homer in the third, as the Yankees batted around in a nine-run rally. Michael Wuertz relieved Cahill in the third but fared no better, walking in two runs before allowing Mark Teixeira's grand slam. Cahill's 10 earned runs were the most allowed by an A's starter since Gio Gonzalez surrendered 11 to the Twins on July 20, 2009. The A’s also optioned third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff and right-handed pitcher Fautino De Los Santos to Sacramento. Rosales missed all of spring training and opened the season on the 60-day DL with a fractured right foot. He began a rehab assignment with Sacramento last Wednesday and went 3 for 10 (.300) with a double, triple and three walks in three games. The 28-year old appeared in one game each at third base, second base and shortstop. Rosales batted .271 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 80 games with Oakland last year before going on the DL in mid-August. He became the first Athletic to start at least one game at six different positions since Scott Brosius in 1995. Sizemore was acquired from the Detroit Tigers May 27 in exchange for left-handed pitcher David Purcey. He began the season at Triple-A Toledo and was batting .408 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 23 games when he was recalled by Detroit May 3. The 26-year old was leading the International League in batting and on-base percentage (.495) at the time of his promotion but hit .222 with 10 walks (.329 on-base percentage) in 17 games with Detroit.

The Boston Red Sox Saturday, April 18, 2020 * The Boston Globe Fenway Park is ready to play ball, even though we are not Stan Grossfeld The grass is perfect and the old ballpark is squeaky clean — it was scrubbed and disinfected for viral pathogens for three days in March. Spending a few hours at Fenway Park is good for the soul. The ballpark is totally silent. The mound and home plate are covered by tarps and the foul lines aren’t drawn yet, but it feels as if there still could be a game played today. The sun’s warmth reflecting off The Wall feels good. The tug of the past is all around but the future is the great unknown. In Fenway, zoom is still a word to describe a Chris Sale fastball, not a video conferencing app. Old friend Terry Francona and the Cleveland Indians would have been here this weekend and there would’ve been big hugs by the batting cage and the rhythmic crack of bat meeting ball. But now gaining access is nearly impossible and includes health questions and safety precautions and a Fenway security escort. Visitors must wear a respiratory mask, gloves, and practice social distancing, larger than the lead Dave Roberts got on Mariano Rivera in the 2004 ALCS. Carissa Unger of Green City Growers in Somerville is planting organic vegetables for Fenway Farms, located on the rooftop of the park. She is one of the few allowed into the ballpark. The harvest this year all will be donated to a local food pantry.
