The FLOWERPOT is situated on the edge of the Derby City Centre on the main A6 road. A multi-storey car park is next to the venue on Chapel Street. This is open 24 hours. The Flowerpot is famed for its vast choice of real ales and is now recognised as one of the best live music venues in the country. The capacity is 250 if standing and 150 if the show is all seated. If you are travelling a long way, please check that tickets are still available for the show. If you are travelling by bus or train, the main stations are approximately 20 minutes walk from the venue - just head for the Derby Cathedral and the Flowerpot is 100 yards further on up the road. Some new names this autumn come in the shape of Dire Straits founder member John Illsley with his band and the legendary guitarist from Jethro Tull, Martin Barre. Top Scottish roots band The Peatbog Faeries will set the venue jumping when they visit in November. There is an evening of Frank Zappa played by Zappa’s band members. Blues is well represented with the brilliant Ian Siegal returning with Jimbo Mathus. American blues star Larry McCray will be flying in with his all American band to promote a new album. There is a top notch double bill which sees Pot favourite Stevie Nimmo Trio performing the same night as Philip Sayce. As Jethro Tull are taking a long break from touring, Martin has put together a band to play the "classic" music from the Tull catalogue. It’s a long time since ‘Green Fields of France’, their epic debut recording, went to number 1 in the Independent Music Chart. Frank Zappa is one of the 20th century’s most impor- tant composers. His works of more than eighty albums is by far the most voluminous and versatile of the entire generation rock – encompassing of course jazz as well as avant-garde and orchestral music. And appropriate to the complexity of his compositions, the list of his band members is a who’s who of incredible musicians. To mark the 20 years which have passed since Frank Zappa's untimely death on December 4 1993, a whole bunch of his most popular collaborators have re-band- ed to turn his multi-dimensional compositions from syllabus material at the music academies into blistering experiences in the world’s concert venues again. The band will be joined by Walter Trout protégés Mitch Laddie and Laurence Jones to assist with guitar playing as well as Walter’s son JON TROUT who proved at the recent Walter Trout benefit concert that the future of Trout guitar players is assured.
