Amusement Park Physics Amusement Park Physics and the new Secondary School Curriculum In the past 18 months, the educational system has seen a shift in the science curriculum and changes to how that curriculum is delivered. The current curriculum is more inquiry based with a focus on questioning, predicting, communication, planning and conducting investigations. In addition, students are asked to analyse not only the data they collect, but also the process that was used to collect the data. The curriculum for Science 8 has changed. Although forces are not directly in the current Grade 8 curriculum, inquiry and investigation are at the forefront. Amusement Park Physics can now be applied to any number of classes as they all include an inquiry / investigative component. Teachers are able to adapt or enhance the curriculum packages currently supplied by Amusement Park Physics as they see fit. This gives you, as an educator, tremendous flexibility in terms of how you and your class spend your time at Playland. You could focus on one ride and do an in-depth study or perhaps investigate similar rides and compare them. -

Tivoli Gardens The Tivoli Gardens at Denmark Tivoli Gardens is the most-visited theme park in Scandinavia, and the second-oldest operating amusement park. The amusement park features beautiful scenery, a lake and flower gardens. It originally had rides like a merry-go-round and a scenic railway. Today, the garden owns some of the best rides such as the wooden roller coaster (Rutschebanen), and Daemonen (the Demon). Tivoli Gardens is also home to the world’s tallest carousel, the Star Flyer. A list of the rides at the park in the order of their opening: 1926 - Bumper Cars 1937 - Galley Ships roundabout boats 1943 - The Ferris Wheel 1988 - Snurretoppen (breakdance spinner) 1988 - Spinning Top (spinner ride) 1993 - The Flying Trunk (renovated in 2010) 1995 - The Dragon (giant swing) 1999 - The Golden Tower (drop tower) 2001 - The Monsoon (a magic carpet ride) 2003 - The Mine (dark ride in a boat featuring 2m drop) 2009 - Vertigo giant swing For kids the park has the Big Clock, Dragon Boats, Dyrekarussellen, the Fun House, the Light House, the Little Pilot, Nautilus, Petzi's World, the Panda, Rasmus Klump, the Temple Tower, Trolley Bus and Vintage Cars. Other attractions at Tivoli Gardens include the pantomime theater, an open-air theater for performances in the commedia dell’arte style, as well as ballet and modern dance. Live music is featured during the summer months. Laser and water shows over the lake are held during the evenings. In 2013, Tivoli has expanded to create a new astronomy themed area named 'The Cheerful Corner'. This place features three rides inspired by the 16th century Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe and are designed for all ages. -

Merlin Entertainments plc - Interim Management Statement Continued execution on strategy Strong start to the year, benefiting from soft 2013 comparatives Full year expectations remain unchanged Merlin Entertainments today reports its trading performance for the 18 weeks to 3rd May 2014. Key trading highlights Like for like1 revenue growth for the first 18 weeks of the year of 12.0% Constant currency2, total Group revenue growth of 16.5% Reported currency, total Group revenue growth of 10.8% 2014 has started well with strong like for like growth of 12.0%, supported by more favourable weather in Northern Europe and successful promotional activity around the release of ‘The LEGO Movie’, the latter having a particularly positive impact on the two US LEGOLAND parks and LEGOLAND Discovery Centres. This period of outperformance should, however, be seen in the context of the suppressed performance in the 2013 comparative period, where results were adversely impacted by an earlier Easter holiday period and extremely cold weather in Northern Europe. As a consequence, underlying trading is consistent with the long term growth trajectory of the business and full-year expectations remain unchanged. Total revenue growth, at constant currency, of 16.5% reflects the full period impact of the midway attractions opened throughout 2013 and the LEGOLAND California hotel which opened in April 2013. The strengthening of Sterling has reduced total revenue growth, based on actual foreign exchange rates, by 5.7 percentage points. The financial position of the business remains strong, with net debt increasing marginally reflecting the seasonality of cashflows. Delivering on the strategy The Group has made further good progress against its six strategic growth drivers: Growing the existing estate through planned investment cycles ‘Flight of the Demons’ winged roller coaster at Heide Park opened on time and has received a positive, early reception. -
