Rhodes is such an island with much more on offer than beaches alone, and we’d love to introduce it to you. The Lycian and Karian coast have many Ancient Greek elements and fit wonderful in our program. Our Eye4Cycling colleagues offer a wonderful biking tour through southwest Turkey and over Rhodes. They are professionals and we gladly place you in their care. The tour location General tour information The first week you’ll make a wonderful tour along cosy harbour villages in south-west Turkey. You’ll discover the ancient culture of the Lycian and Karian coast. After a week you’ll sail by fast hydrofoil to the Greek island Rhodes, island of the sun god Helios.

München, download unter www.zobodat.at _________ Atalanta (August 1997) 28 (1/2):43-47, Würzburg, ISSN 0171-0079 _________ A contribution to the knowledge of the Papilionidae of Rhodes Island (Lepidoptera: Papilionidae) by G iovanni Sa l a & M a u r iz io Bo llin o received 6.IV. 1996 Introduction In the present work the authors report considerations about distribution, ecology, and syste- matics of the Papilionidae of Rhodes Island, based on direct observations during a spring field-trip (10.-17.IV. 1994) and on works of many authors (Fruhstorfer , Rebel , Turati , Seyer , Weiss , Koçak, Olivier ). Following investigations done on Kriti Papilionidae, the first author visited all the known sites adding some new biotopes; the first intent was searching for the food plants, the preimaginal instars, the places of flight with the feeding plants of adults. The first author, with the cooper ation of three collegues, travelled the island for more than 880 km, visiting almost all localities cited by Olivier and trying to look for new biotopes in the southern part of Rhodes; the climatic situation was in syntony with the annual trend although a disturbance in the first days of April has delayed the emergence of populations of All. cerisy at higher altitudes in the center of the island, while those at sea level have already vanished; in the intermediate area the flight period was at its peak; generally the butterflies were scarce, only All. cerisy and Manióla telmessia were found in some numbers. We didn’t find any Archon apollinus despite the search along the whole of Rhodes; we presume that the flight period had already ended for quite a time because, at least, some worn specimens should have been found; if apollinus is present on Rhodes island, it is surely very local and rare.

Verbreitungskarten aller nachgewiesenen Arten sowie eine aktuelle herpetologische Faunenliste werden erstellt. Folgende Arten wurden regelmäßig und wiederholt festgestellt: Bufo viridis, Hyla arborea, Pelophylax cerigensis, Mauremys rivulata, Hemidactylus turcicus, Laudakia stellio, Ophisops elegans, Lacerta trilineata, Anatolacerta oertzeni, Ablepharus kitaibelii, Chalcides ocellatus, Trachylepis aurata, Blanus strauchi, Typhlops vermicularis, Dolichophis sp., Platyceps najadum, Hemorrhois nummifer, Zamenis situla, Natrix natrix, Telescopus fallax. • Villa Colossus Region: Rhodes Sleeps: 7
Villa Colossus Region: Rhodes Sleeps: 7 Overview Villa Colossus is situated in the ‘village of colours’ Fanes, 13km south-west of the airport. Fanes is delightful, bright and cheery after a village initiative and local artist Loukas Nikolitsis breathed new life into this corner of Rhodes by refreshing the old village houses. Bright, colourful colours were used to make Fanes a very unique place. With a splendid beach boasting a range of water sports, charming tavernas and a picturesque harbour on the doorstep, Villa Colossus is a popular pick for guests wanting a comfortable base on this beautiful island. The villa is modern and relatively minimal in design, making it very easy to step right in and enjoy your holiday. There are three bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor. This is a spacious double bedroom with its own bathroom. Also on the ground floor is a lounge and dining room, a modern well-equipped kitchen and a guest toilet. The lounge opens to the lovely terrace and swimming pool. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one a double and the other a twin bedroom. They share another spacious bathroom. The upstairs balcony is large, offering lovely views towards the town and sea. Guests are sure to spend most of their time outside enjoying the brilliant Greek sunshine. UNEP(OCA)/MED WG.46/4 16 March 1992 Original: ENGLISH MEDITERRANEAN ACTION PLAN Fourth Meeting of the Task Team on Climatic Changes on the Island of Rhodes Athens, 30-31 March 1992 IMPLICATIONS OF EXPECTED CLIMATIC CHANGES ON THE ISLAND OF RHODES HYDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES OF THE ISLAND OF RHODES by M.C. ALEXIADOU F I R S T D R A F T N O T T O B E C I T E D UNEP Athens, 1992 UNEP(OCA)/MED WG.46/4 page 1 2.3. HYDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES OF THE ISLAND OF RHODES 1. Introduction In the last few years the need of rational management of the aqueus potential and of new water resources exploration in Rhodes island has become necessary because of: - the continuous growth of island's permanent population, - the huge development of tourism, and - the continuous increase in water needs per habitant. The problem of water supply has become particularly acute during the last two years which has been characterised as dry. According to 1987 estimates the total annual consumption in water has risen to 30 Mm3. It should be noted that a great part of the total water quantity (approx. 67% to 70%) is consumed mainly for water-supply and irrigation purposes at the northern part of the island, where development and economic activities are most intensive (triangle between Rhodes city - Fanes - Kolimpia). The use of the total annual water consumption is 17 Mm3 for water-supply and 13 Mm3/year for irrigation. Part of the consumption is also used to cover the needs of nearby islands which belong to its district i.e.

WATER SUPPLY MANAGEMENT APPROACHES USING RES IN RHODES ISLAND, GREECE E. Manoli, D. Assimacopoulos1 and C. A. Karavitis2 National Technical University of Athens, Chemical Engineering Department, Process Analysis and Plant Design Section, 9 Heroon Polytechniou, Zografou Campus, GR-15780, Athens, Greece ABSTRACT: Desalination powered by Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is presented in order to augment the water supply in the semi-arid region of Rhodes island.. The island of Rhodes was chosen as a case study as it relies mostly on the exploitation of groundwater resources and faces serious water shortage problems due to the aquifers depletion. Alternatives are discussed and compared in contrast to the construction of storage dams so as to meet the urban demand up to the year 2040. Results may indicate that by using also financial incentives and management approaches, desalination powered by RES could be an attractive and environmentally friendly option in an effort to solve problems related to water quantity and quality in semi-arid regions with adequate Renewable Energy potential. 1. INTRODUCTION resources problems.
