I also think sometimes Ennis is WAY too wordy and slows the pacing down. Bottomless reservoir of pain a plus. It spawned a sequel, For a Few Troubles More, a broad Belfast-based comedy featuring two supporting ch Ennis began his comic-writing career in with the series Troubled Souls. SuperFanboyMan rated it really liked it Jul 16, In Juneat Wizard World, Philadelphia, Ennis announced several new projects, including a metaseries of war comics called Battlefields from Dynamite made up of mini-series including Night Witches, Dear Billy and Tankies, another Chronicles of Wormwood mini-series and Crossed both at Avatar, a six-issue miniseries about Butcher from The Boys and a Punisher project reuniting him with artist Steve Dillon subsequently specified to be a weekly mini-series entitled Punisher: War Zone, to be released concurrently with the film of the same name. There is a depth to these stories that brings consequences to light. The first arc is the "Barracuda" story and has more horrific bloody gore than most horror stories. It's still fun to read if you like action, but that's about it. It doesn't come together until the second half when it gets boiled down to the conflict between the primary characters. It is brutal straightforward action. Might just have to track down Punisher Max: the Complete Collection Vol. 3: Vol. 3 of Fury Max after reading these. Want It. Gone are the spare and simple moments that make you think, discarded for more traditional comic book adventures and slaughter. There are sharks involved. Physically outmatching in Castle in spectacular fashion, he makes for a great antagonist. Best for. Frank Castle has definitely seen better days. Here at Walmart. This could have been so good. Your question required. The Punisher has guns, will travel. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Frank Castle's war on crime is bloodier than ever in a volume jam-packed with death, depravity and revenge! Since then, well, let's just say Zakharov's not the type to forgive and forget. But that even in death, he can offer some comfort to those who he opens himself up to. But a new player moves onto the field -- one they hadn't anticipated. The last story arc involves Punisher Max: the Complete Collection Vol. 3: Vol. 3 trafficking which is a pretty dark topic, and he takes on the group that organises this. Violent, gory, brutal. But all stories are interesting and original so it is not repetitive. Ben Milette added it Aug 18, Holy fuck. Oct 21, Judah Radd rated it it was amazing Shelves: marvel-comics. Then the second story, "Man of Stone," is a sequel of sorts and brings closure to a few different story arcs that we've seen from Book 2, but especially "Mother Russia. No white boots; this comic has completely scrapped all of the more cartoony aspects of older Punisher comics in favor of grim realism. Then Frank faces the fury of five women scorned. It has a bunch of twists and a devastating, powerful ending that I didn't see coming. It's violent, full of cussing, and deals with subject matter like warfare, nuclear arms, white collar crime, and forced prostitution. And he'll face a lethal reunion with General Nikolai Alexandrovich Zakharov. The positive depiction of Detective Budiansky isn't enough to redeem it. Maybe especially after reading this. The last story is The Slavers, which is probably the most fucked up in some ways, actually in all ways, and mostly focuses on how woman are grabbed up on the street and treated as sex slaves. The Punisher killed their husbands -- put them down like gods -- and shattered their lives. They were randomly placed and usually just a little fuzzy, though in a few places Punisher Max: the Complete Collection Vol. 3: Vol. 3 was hard to make out dialogue. The art is dark. NOOK Book. The third and possibly my favorite, which is hard to say because I think all of these stories are a knock out for different reasons but the end result is the same, The Slavers. .

English language. doi: 10.1386/jucs.4.1-2.241_1 MARTIN LUND Linnaeus University ‘Every day is 9/11!’: Re-constructing Ground Zero in three US comics ABSTRACT KEYWORDS This article analyses three comics series: writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Tony comics Harris’ Ex Machina (August 2004–August 2010); writer Brian Wood and artist Ground Zero Riccardo Burchielli’s DMZ (November 2005–February 2012); and writer Garth 9/11 Ennis and artist Darick Robertson’s The Boys (October 2006–November 2012). archifictions Taking literary critic Laura Frost’s concept of ‘archifictions’ as its starting point, the War on Terror article discusses how these series frame the September 11 attacks on New York and architecture their aftermath, but its primary concern is with their engagement with the larger social ramifications of 9/11 and with the War on Terror, and with how this engage- ment is rooted in and centred on Ground Zero. It argues that this rooting allows these comics’ creators to critique post-9/11 US culture and foreign policy, but that it also, ultimately, serves to disarm the critique that each series voices in favour of closure through recourse to recuperative architecture. The attacks on September 11 continue to be felt in US culture. Comics are no exception. Comics publishers, large and small, responded immediately and comics about the attacks or the War on Terror have been coming out ever since. Largely missing from these comics, however, is an engagement with Ground Zero; after depicting the Twin Towers struck or falling, artists and writers rarely give the area a second thought.

Crossed keeps crossing and I keep paying.By DethklokJust got this today and read it in one sitting. Worth the money. The middle story 'The Livers' felt like the weakest out of the three. It's a continuation of the Amanda story arc from Crossed: Psychopath and doesn't really pop. Maybe it's because it tries to mix personal insanity with the general Crossed insanity and comes off kind of bland instead of sharp and hard hitting. Hopefully any future Crossed stories with the Amanda character will balance better. The Garth Ennis story which is the beginning, 'The Fatal Englishman' was good, if kind of preachy at times. Ennis still delivers and I own other comics he's done, so the man puts in work. The one that made this book was the last story by Si Spurrier, who is doing the Crossed: Wish You Were Here webcomic which I love. He does 'Conquers All', a Crossed love story that hits all the Crossed checkmarks.
