    Music Our totally awesome music subbies and contributors have been working hard over the semester break to bring you the latest and greatest in music. We’ve got the goss on Splendour, reviews and interviews. So read on tune- loving friends, read on... Sparkadia You have probably heard of Sparkadia. A couple of months ago their debut album Postcards was featured on Triple J. They also recently completed a run of national dates stopping off in Adelaide to play a show with Perth’s the Dirty Secrets at Jive. At the moment they are probably still overseas having just played Glastonbury and T in the Park not to mention several other high profile festivals. I asked Alex, vocalist/guitarist, and Dave, drummer, how they felt about their recent run of good fortune. “It’s pretty sweet”, Dave confides. Of course it wasn’t always like this. “It’s been a real long hard slog and the combination of ‘a lot of luck and a lot of hard work’,” Alex tells me. The guys then explain how they spent nineteen hours in a tour van with The Cops to get to a show in Sydney, having just played in Adelaide. Inevitably, I got onto the subject of Sparkadia’s early days. Alex and Dave were school mates who only bonded over a love of Metallica and ‘Maiden. Da freut es uns doch umso mehr, dass Blink-182 nicht nur einen weiteren Festivalauftritt im Rahmen des Hamburger Kultursommers bestätigt haben, sondern darüber hinaus – wenn man schon in Europa unterwegs ist, will man auch möglichst viele Fans glücklich machen! – noch zwei Shows in Stuttgart und Dortmund spielen werden. Selbst nach mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten Bandgeschichte – das Bandmotto lautet schließlich selbstironisch „Crappy Punk Rock Since 1992“ – fühlt man sich beim Hören egal welches Songs des Trios aus San Diego vollkommen in die gute alte Zeit mit „All The Small Things“ oder „Stay Together For The Kids“ zurückversetzt. Vollkommen weggepustet, entwurzelt und wie nach einer wilden Fahrt im Transrapid wird man vom Blink-182-Sound wieder ausgespuckt – und das glücklich und nach mehr schreiend! In den letzten zwei Jahren haben sie alle Stadien der Welt exzessiv abgegrast und begeben sich nun wieder ins Studio, um am Nachfolger der Digital-EP „Dogs Eating Dogs“ zu basteln. Und natürlich werden Blink-182 die neuen Songs auch live präsentieren, auf dem Highfield, auf dem Hamburg Crash Fest (für das natürlich in Kürze noch weitere Bands bestätigt werden) und in den Hallen. Was bei ihnen wiederum gleichbedeutend ist mit: Spaß haben. Ob bei den Festivals im Sommer – unter anderem treten die Jungs beim Highfield und beim Chiemsee Summer auf – oder auf Clubtour: Die Punker aus dem Orange County sind das ganze Jahr über unterwegs und spielen sich, gelinde gesagt, nicht nur den Arsch, sondern nahezu alle Körperteile ab und dazu die Finger blutig. Sänger und Rapper Ali Tabatabaee, Sänger und Gitarrist Matty Lewis, Gitarrist Dan Palmer, Bassist Ben Osmundson und Schlagzeuger Ed Udhus bringen jede Crowd zum Bouncen, zum Moshen und derart zum Stagediven, dass das Equipment auf der Bühne durcheinander gewirbelt wurde wie bei einem Tornado. Machtvolle Riffs, coole Rap-Einlagen, humorvolle Coverversionen, unerwartete und spontane Show-Einfälle machen jede Halle zum wirbelnden Mahlstrom. Nicht umsonst nannte sie Watchmysound einmal „die personifizierte Party-Maschine“. Und genau die wird wieder angeworfen, wenn ZEBRAHEAD Ende April für drei Konzerte nach Deutschland kommen.
