Membership The Committee has eleven members including a Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson with a quorum of five. Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP Chancellor of the Exchequer HM Treasury 1 Horse Guards Road London SW1A 2HQ Dear Chancellor, Budget Measures to Support Hospitality and Tourism We are writing today as members and supporters of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism ahead of the Budget on 3rd March. As you will of course be aware, hospitality and tourism are vital to the UK’s economy along with the livelihoods and wellbeing of millions of people across the UK. The pandemic has amplified this, with its impacts illustrating the pan-UK nature of these sectors, the economic benefits they generate, and the wider social and wellbeing benefits that they provide. The role that these sectors play in terms of boosting local, civic pride in all our constituencies, and the strong sense of community that they foster, should not be underestimated. It is well-established that people relate to their local town centres, high streets and community hubs, of which the hospitality and tourism sectors are an essential part. The latest figures from 2020 highlight the significant impact that the virus has had on these industries. In 2020, the hospitality sector has seen a sales drop of 53.8%, equating to a loss in revenue of £72 billion. This decline has impacted the UK’s national economy by taking off around 2 percentage points from total GDP. For hospitality, this downturn is already estimated to be over 10 times worse than the impact of the financial crisis. It is estimated that employment in the sector has dropped by over 1 million jobs. -

As you will know, our aviation, travel and tourism sectors were the first to be impacted as a consequence of COVID-19, with passenger numbers collapsing from March 2020 and with recovery likely to take a number of years, these will also be one of the last sectors to recover. The consequences on our aviation, travel and tourism sectors have been devastating, with businesses seeing little or no revenue for over fifteen months, significant job losses and the risk of business failure remaining a real risk. However, with the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme due to close in September, we run the very real risk of a major jobs crisis in the industry. The latest ONS statistics show that 57% of employees in passenger air transport and 51% of those employed by travel agency and tour operators remain on furlough. With a lost summer season coming on top of the worst fifteen months in the history of UK aviation, without the continuing support of the CJRS the risk of significant redundancies will become a stark and devastating reality. -

LGBTQ EQUALITY & Northern Ireland’s Political Parties An independent survey General Election 2015 UPDATED VERSION (1) In April 2015 I emailed all the political parties in Northern Ireland that have candidates standing the the 2015 General Election. I enclosed a list of questions about their policies and active records on important lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans* and queer issues. The following pages contain the original information and questions sent to the parties, along with their replies and some additonal facts about each party’s record on LGBTQ rights. All replies are printed exactly as received, except where editied (with due respect and care for key facts) to keep them roughly around the requested 150 word limit. Parties are listed in the order their answers were returned. Where parties have not responded, I have researched their available policies, manifestos and records online and compiled some information. While most of us who identfy as LGBT or Q are unlikely to vote based on a party’s LGBTQ policies alone, it does help to know what each party thinks of some of the issues that effect our lives. And, more importantly, what they have already done and what they plan to do to tackle some of the serious problems caused by homophobia and transphobia; invisibility; institutionalised discrimination and exclusion. I hope that it will be updated and added to over time. This is an independent survey. It has no agenda other than to give each party an opportunity put on paper what they intend to do to help us build a more equal Northern Ireland in terms of sexual orientation and gender identity. -

Support for statutory right to independent advice – Amendments 48 & 50 Statutory right to independent advice The Northern Ireland Advice Services Consortium1 and NICVA support Amendments 48 and 50 as proposed by Mr Roy Beggs and Mr Robin Swann and Mrs Dolores Kelly, Mr Alex Attwood, Mr Alban Maginness and Mr Pat Ramsey respectively.2 We explain the reasons for our support below. Right to independent advice A statutory right to independent advice for anyone affected by the Welfare Reform Bill. This concept was first proposed by Advice NI in evidence to the Social Development Committee during the scrutiny stage of the Welfare Reform Bill. The concept has been warmly welcomed by the Northern Ireland Advice Services Consortium (NIASC) and NICVA.3 Independent welfare advice is invaluable for people receiving social security benefits or who are considering making a claim. We can think of welfare advice as a safety net. It ensures that people receive the benefits they are entitled to or to resolve problems before they escalate. By playing a key role in promoting benefit uptake, welfare advice brings monetary and social benefits to claimants and their communities. What do advisers do? Advisers do not tell people what to do: they empower people by explaining their options and supporting decision making.4 Advisers: - Interview people in a supportive environment to obtain a full picture of any problems - Help the person prioritise the problems and identify solutions - Provide up to date advice about available benefits and assess a person’s eligibility - Help complete applications - Advocate at appeals if necessary - Help people liaise with government departments and negotiate with companies and creditors - Refer externally to other forms of appropriate crisis intervention (e.g.
