The last comprehensive list (Barrio-Amorós 2009c) included a total of 333 species, while the current catalogue lists 387 species (370 anurans, 10 caecilians, and seven salamanders), including 28 species not yet described or properly identified. Fifty species and four genera are added to the previous list, 25 species are deleted, and 47 experienced nomenclatural changes. -

Day 1 Monday 29th January UK to Quito People arrived in Quito via Amsterdam with KLM or via Madrid with Iberia, while Tony came separately from the USA. Everyone was met at the airport and taken to the Hotel Vieja Cuba; those who were awake enough went out to eat before a good night’s rest. Day 2 Tuesday 30th January Quito. Weather: Hot and mostly sunny. The early risers saw the first few birds of the trip outside the hotel: Rufous- collared Sparrow, Great Thrush and Eared Doves. After breakfast, an excellent guide took us on a bus and walking tour of Quito’s old town. This started with the Basilica del Voto Nacional, where everyone marvelled at the “grotesques” of native Ecuadorian animals such as frigatebirds, iguanas and tortoises. -

Other Contributions NATURE NOTES Amphibia: Anura Family Bufonidae Incilius marmoreus (Wiegmann, 1833). Reproduction. The distribution of the Marbled Toad, Incilius marmo- reus, a Mexican endemic, extends from northern Sinaloa to Chiapas along the Pacific coastal plain, with an isolated population in Veracruz (Frost, 2017); on the Atlantic versant, Lemos Espinal and Dixon (2016: 354) also noted that this species occurs from “northern Hidalgo to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.” Hardy and McDiarmid (1969) reported that most individuals in Sinaloa were found on the road at night during or just after rains, and that most females were collected in July and contained eggs. In Hidalgo, I. marmoreus aggregates in temporary ponds during the rainy season (Lemos Espinal and Dixon, 2016). Herein, I present data from a histological examination of I. marmoreus gonadal material from Colima and Sinaloa, and provide the minimum sizes for reproductive activity in males and females. The use of museum collections for obtaining reproductive data avoids removing additional animals from the wild. I examined 42 specimens of I. marmoreus (11 from Colima, collected in 1967, and 31 from Sinaloa, collected in 1960, 1962, 1963, and 1968). The combined samples consisted of 17 males (mean snout–vent length [SVL] = 54.5 mm ± 3.1 SD, range = 48–58 mm), 21 females (mean SVL = 60.9 mm ± 4.5 SD, range = 54–70 mm) and four juveniles from Sinaloa (mean SVL = 38.4 mm ± 7.1 SD, range = 29–44 mm); the specimens are maintained in the herpetology collection of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (LACM), Los Angeles, California, United States (Appendix 1). -

Fifteen of us were on the Galapagos trip, and eight took the extension to Sacha Lodge. The daily details record highlights of the day, and a full sightings list, excluding marine life and plants, can be found at the end of the report. Day 1 Monday 10th August UK to Quito After the long journey from home to Quito, we were met by Esteban, our Quito guide, who took us to the Hotel Dann Carlton. On the journey he told us about the social and economic history of the country and how it had made a u-turn from the brink of bankruptcy, although there was still much poverty to be seen. Day 2 Tuesday 11th August Quito Weather: Hot and mostly sunny After a good night’s sleep and a good breakfast, Esteban met us with a bus and took us for a cultural trip around Quito, visiting a number of churches and cathedrals, the Presidential Palace and the main plaza. We had free time in the afternoon and options included staying in the city, going even higher on the cable car, or visiting the botanical gardens or a cultural museum. -

NeoBiota 27: 69–79. doi: 10.3897/neobiota.27.5437 Abstract Hemidactylus frenatus is an Asian gecko species that has invaded many tropical regions to become one of the most widespread lizards worldwide. This species has dispersed across the Pacific Ocean to reach Ha- waii and subsequently Mexico and other Central American countries. More recently, it has been reported from northwestern South America. Using 12S and cytb mitochondrial DNA sequences I found that South American and Galápagos haplotypes are identical to those from Hawaii and Papua New Guinea, suggest- ing a common Melanesian origin for both Hawaii and South America. Literature records suggest that H. frenatus arrived in Colombia around the mid-‘90s, dispersed south into Ecuador in less than five years, and arrived in the Galápagos about one decade later. -
