Apr 30, 2018 16:32 CEST Dalecarlian horses move into Göteborg Landvetter Airport For the sixth straight year, it is time for an exciting new wall of art at Göteborg Landvetter Airport. On Thursday, April 26, Shai Dahan’s nine-metre- long mural, which he painted while spending a week in the terminal, will be inaugurated. Since 2013, Göteborg Landvetter Airport has presented a number of artists on a wall in its departure hall. “We want to be an airport that people look forward to visiting, that sparks our passengers’ curiosity, and create a positive experience at the airport. We want to offer a good range of commercial products, world-class service and an inspiring atmosphere. This is where we meet, create, work, travel and experience – just one step between the population centres in this region and the world’s metropolises. During the year, we expect nearly seven million passengers to travel via Göteborg Landvetter Airport. That is as many visitors as the Louvre in Paris has, so this really is a unique place,” says Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport. Shai Dahan, who was born in the US in 1979, is a contemporary artist who works with paintings, murals, illustrations and sculptures. Inspired by graffiti and skateboarding culture, he picked up his first can of spray paint when he was fourteen years old. Among other activities, he has taken part in well- known street art projects such as the Underbelly Project, Mom&Pop-izm and the New York City Ad Takeover. Since moving to Sweden in 2010, Dahan has devoted his energy full-time to art. Dahan continues to exhibit internationally, including in New York, Los Angeles, England, Palestine and across Scandinavia, with solo exhibitions in Gothenburg and Stockholm. He has also installed large-scale sculptures including nine life-size horse sculptures in central Gothenburg in 2017 and a three-metre bronze sculpture in the city of Ulricehamn in the spring of 2018. “The Dalecarlian horse (Dalahästen) is closely linked to Swedish traditions and is recognised immediately. By creating them in a larger format and in a vibrant array of colours, it speaks to people with different backgrounds and from different cultures, and everyone can identify with them in some way,” says Shai Dahan. “Usually, I make an impression on a big building or a wall. At Göteborg Landvetter Airport, I got the impression from all the millions of people who pass by my work either on their way out into the world or when they land in Gothenburg. The airport is a place where cultures meet, and the fact that I can be part of that with my art is very special and an honour for me. I received many warm smiles and happy greetings during the week I worked on site in the terminal. If people continue to smile when they see my art, then my wish has been satisfied and my job has been done,” Dahan concludes. The aim of this study is therefore to explore what conditions can be created for cultural infrastructure through urban and regional planning in Sweden. Cultural infrastructure includes both hard (such as physical premises) and soft structures (such as financial support). The study focuses on public activities (mainly municipal and regional) but also deals with how private consultancy firms can enable cultural infrastructure.

  • Photorealistic Murals by Lonac to No Limit Street Art
2017-05-02 05:20 CEST Photorealistic murals by Lonac to No Limit Street Art Lonac is a Croatian artist that earned recognition with his masterful spray paint technique and photo realistic murals. As a schooled painter, he is strongly influenced by classic art, which is noticeable in his work. From creating a reference photograph, prepping the wall, to adding the finest final details, he approaches every piece with absolute dedication and devotion. Meticulous in execution and very harmonious in their composition, his murals are almost exclusively done with spray paint. Often based on his personal memories or observations, they are influenced by skateboarding culture, comics, graffiti, movies, music, as well as social issues. Along with dominating realist imagery, his works often features surrealist, often recurring elements. - Lonac really masters spray paint, it´s amazing to see the shadings and the details in his pieces. I admire his photorealistic style which can make it hard to distinguish it from reality, but I can also find his smaller, more humorous pieces, interacting with the surroundings really interesting, says Shai Dahan, curator of No Limit Street Art. - I love the way he treats a wall. It´s like the wall and the painting create some kind of symbiosis that is very appealing. With Lonac we get representation from yet a new country in our line up and I look forward to see what he can achieve in Borås during No Limit, says Stina Hallhagen, project manager. No Limit is an outdoor art event inviting artists from around the world to participate in turning the public space into an outdoor gallery.

You can start from any side, and use the maps and descriptions to find your way around. Happy art hunting! The Subtopia outdoor gallery came to be in 2011, when the inter- nationally renowned artist ROA and the Stockholm-based Scarlett Gallery were looking for a wall for him to paint on in the Stockholm area. Sanna-Lisa Gesang-Gottowt tipped them about Subtopia, and naturally, we gratefully accepted one of his black and white murals. • Kronobergsgatan 35

  • 25001 Graffiti Commu
Full Exhibit THESIS Dating back to prehistoric times, wall writing has been a way for humans to communicate with each other and to future generations. Hieroglyphics, which can be viewed as an early form of graffiti, have evolved into stone inscriptions on grave sites and eventually to the spray-painted murals that are seen today. Graffiti is a form of communication that reaches beyond any language to tell a story. It allows us to raise awareness for political issues and to begin social movements through art. Graffiti has given many people a voice to communicate messages that may otherwise have been silenced. People love to tell stories through art and leave behind records of their lives. Over the years, humans have written on walls and other objects to leave different kinds of messages. “It begins almost when man did, when he was the Paleolithic Homo sapiens, living in a cave… There is plenty of indication that man has been trying to put it, if not in writing then certainly in drawing, since prehistoric days. To judge by available evidence, he was almost from his very beginnings a doodler and, therefore, a graffitist.” Robert Reisner Graffiti: Two Thousand Years of Wall Writing Left Top Panel Text “Man is a natural communicator.
